💡 Unlike the biomedicine model, there is no pill for you to take to heal your procrastination. Procrastination is not simply an unhealthy behaviour that needs to be “resisted”.

🫠 Procrastination is an avoidance coping response that has a root cause to it. In modern society, we place a lot of emphasis on achieving outcomes and perfection as quick as possible.

🥲 Over time, we have learnt to numb our pain with medication and temporarily pleasures. We have forgotten to live in the present and connect with our feelings.

😰 Procrastination can be very debilitating when you have no control over it.

🧠 It is an avoidance coping mechanism to keep you safe from reality. You’ve learnt to avoid your negative emotions as you lack the ability to regulate them as a child.

🛑 Overtime, it becomes an automatic coping response to procrastinate.

😰 If you are stuck in a self-sabotaging cycle, it’s time to look deeper. Take the opportunity to learn more about your conflicting beliefs and reflect on your self-communication.

How do you feel when you make mistakes?

🦋 More importantly, how do you cope when you make mistakes?

👉 Mistakes are inevitable because we can’t be 100% perfect. Humans are emotional beings.

😵 You are bound to feel a negative emotion when you make a mistake. However, the key is how you choose to DEAL with your mistakes.

😨 Sometimes, it can be hard to accept that you make a mistake, but it’s important to accept that it has happened. You could feel like you’ve no control over what happened.

🙃 You find yourself questioning ‘what you could’ve done’ or ‘how did it happen?’ You want to gain control over the situation as much as possible.

🙂 However, it’s essential to be able to accept and let go of what has happened. You need to look into your emotional trigger and hurt.

🫠 Understand why you feel a deep sense of shame, guilt and helplessness. You can learn from your mistakes instead.

❤️ You can learn more about yourself and your behaviours. Understand your trauma, triggers and behaviours that could have also contributed to it.

⚡A mistake does not always have to be a mistake. It can also be a life lesson. You can control your response and how you cope.

What it means to get to the root cause of your mental health issues - Understanding when, why, and how you learn to feel and behave a certain way.

⚠️ There are many factors that could lead you to develop mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and so on. Understanding your childhood and past experiences is one of the crucial aspects.

🧠 These acquired beliefs and feelings are stored as long-term memories in your subconscious mind. It is also associated with your learning experiences.

🤨 Even if you do not consciously remember these events, it affects your nervous system regulation. Your autonomic nervous system serves to protect you and help you react instantly to threats based on your past experiences.

❤️ It’s important to release the trapped emotions in your mind and body. Your mind and body will always feel and respond the same way till your belief changes.

💡 I have always emphasised getting to the root cause at the end of each post. I thought I’d break it down in depth in this post.

😰 When things are beyond your control, you feel anxious and fearful of the ‘unknown’. It makes it hard for you to navigate through new experiences.

💡 How to effectively shift your procrastination behaviour? It is important to understand when, why and how you learn to procrastinate.

💥 It’s crucial to target the core beliefs developed in your early childhood years. Your mind’s only job is to keep you safe.

🥲 Hence, you experience internal resistance when you try to change your behaviour without identifying the root cause. If you avoid dealing with your subconscious fears or conflicting beliefs, your mind will resist permanent change.

✨ Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) holds a safe space for you to dive deep into past experiences. It helps to identify the core belief that causes you to procrastinate.

❤️‍🩹 Once you identify your conflicting beliefs, you can learn to implement healthier coping skills instead. RTT also includes multiple powerful healing techniques such as re-parenting yourself, the praise you wanted to hear, dialogue with the hurter and so on.

❤️‍🩹 Procrastination keeps you safe from harsh reality. It allows you to disconnect and escape into your own world.

👉🏻 Do you have unfulfilled childhood needs?
• Lack of emotional support & emotional connection
• Lack of physical and financial support
• Harsh criticism from your family members
• Unpredictable family circumstances & parental responses

👉🏻 Do you have unresolved trauma?
• Embarrassing events in your life
• Life-changing events
• Unusual family or personal circumstances
• Emotional & Physical Abuse

👉🏻 Most importantly, how did you survive these events?
• Did you cope by running away from reality?
• Did you cope by pretending that everything is okay?
• Did you cope by pretending that you’re strong and unhurt?
• Did you cope by pushing the event to the back of your mind?

🧠 The truth is that your subconscious mind stores the memories, feelings and beliefs acquired from these events. Regardless, you cannot escape the impact of these events.

💡 Instead, you have to address these events to re-write the beliefs learnt. When you learn to cope by avoiding, your mind becomes good at distracting you from reality.

😓 Hence, you find it difficult to concentrate and get things done. Subconsciously, you also have conflicting beliefs and fears that you are running away from.

😧 If you are unaware of it, your chronic procrastination affects how you react and behave in a relationship.

💡 Procrastination is an avoidance coping mechanism. There are some similar traits between avoidance coping and avoidant attachment.

💥 The main similarities are your avoidance in dealing with your problems and difficult emotions. Thus, you get overwhelmed when conflicts arise as you never learn to work through them.

💭 Procrastination also makes you dissociate and disconnect from a relationship. You are not fully present in reality. Therefore, you enjoy spending a lot of alone time to ‘recharge’ and feel like yourself again.

🥹 Procrastination does not stop at a productivity level. It affects all aspects of your life.

⛑ Procrastination keeps you safe in your comfort zone. It makes it hard for you to transition from one task to the next.

⏳You have a poor sense of control over time as you are easily distracted. Your mind constantly seeks to engage in pleasurable activities to keep you safe.

🧠 Procrastination is a learned coping mechanism to protect you. Thus, it’s essential to heal your inner child and revisit your past experiences to identify the unhealthy pattern.

Growing up, procrastination was a big part of my identity. It was a deep-rooted issue that plagued all aspects of my life.

😓 I was not aware of the impact it had on me when I was younger. As I got older, I started noticing more significant struggles.

Here were what I struggled with most in my early adulthood:
👉🏻 Struggled to make difficult decisions in life as I automatically procrastinated to self-soothe

👉🏻 Struggled to work through conflicts in an intimate relationship as I often disconnect when stressed

👉🏻 Struggled to be productive and produce good quality work as I got distracted easily

👉🏻 Always rearranging my work schedule and rescheduling my plans to accommodate my ‘unfinished’ task

👉🏻 Came off as being unreliable or inconsiderate when I struggled to be punctual and made people wait

👉🏻 Constantly living in my own world as I prioritised my needs more than other people

💭 Procrastination is like a bubble that cushions you from reality. It takes over the steering wheel in your mind while strapping you in the passenger seat.
