With severe weather impacting our region, here’s some important public health advice to help keep you and your family safe 👇
🚫 Avoid contact with floodwater and mud where possible
🌊 Avoid wading, swimming or playing in flood-affected water
💊 Keep essential medications accessible, including asthma inhalers, as severe weather can trigger asthma symptoms
🥾 Wear protective clothing and closed-in shoes if cleaning up
😷 Use gloves and considering wearing a mask when hosing dried mud
🩹 Cover any cuts or sores with waterproof dressings
🧼 Wash hands thoroughly with soap and clean water after outdoor activities
After heavy rains there is an increased risk of contracting gastro, or rarer diseases including melioidosis and leptospirosis. Be alert for symptoms such as diarrhoea, fever, headaches, muscle pain, nausea or skin infections. If you or a family member feel unwell, seek medical advice.
