Parents and caregivers saying these phrases to children are often repeating what they were told as children by their own parents, caregivers, and teachers. These phrases control how children experience the world, which is actually making them feel unsure and unsafe, always looking to someone else to help them.
Itโs important to change our language to encourage and support our children instead of putting fear into them.
If we choose positive or neutral language, then how we speak can consciously guide our children to be authentic, learn to trust their instincts, judgements and intuition.
Children deserve the freedom to explore and learn in their own way, this inevitably means they make mistakes and hurt themselves. We as parents have to accept this and be prepared.
