Wow what a couple of weeks!
For me it’s been big, the hugeness of the ‘Black lives matter’ movement awakening me up to the some of the areas I was not aware of. I emphasise some as I’m sure there is so much more to know and this will be a journey of learning and un learning that I’m committed to.
And with that I wondered how anything else can be talked about, how do I follow with anything about yoga classes, and the changes that I’m making with them. And yet I will. In yoga there are eight limbs and the first of these is Yama (ethical disciplines) and the first of these disciplines is Ahimsa (non-violence).
“Violence arises out of fear, weakness, ignorance or restlessness. To curb it what is most needed is freedom from fear. To gain this freedom, what is required is a change of outlook on life and reorientation of the mind. Violence is bound to decline when men learn to base their faith upon reality and investigation rather than upon ignorance and supposition.” BKS Iyengar.
Now I see that Yoga practice is relevant and needed. As not only does yoga help with strength and flexibility but with how we see the world. How we face times where we are asked to SEE more, to be more aware.
“Yoga does not change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees. There is no progress towards ultimate freedom without transformation, and this is the key issue in all lives." BKS Iyengar
Yoga practice also gives us a chance to restore energy and take time out from ‘all the things’ to take time in (to journey deeper in towards ourselves).
To learn and un learn, and connect deeply to ourselves and what matters and then to do that with others, the journey of yoga, the practice of Asana supports me and helps me, and I’m keen to keep sharing that, so that it may support you.
It does not stop here, there are people in power to contact, organisations to support, books to read, conversations with children, movies to watch, listening more to first nations people, and more.
Lets love and support each other, help educate each other so change comes and stays.
Please if what I've written is offensive, not sensitive, or misunderstood I would like to know in a friendly manner.
