Hi! I'm Sal and a resident of Docklands. For the past five years, I’ve been watching the ladies paddle from my balcony — always in awe and secretly wishing I could be a part of it too. The drumbeats made it even more enchanting.

I had always assumed that you needed to be a trained professional to paddle and participate. So I admired from a distance.

Earlier this year, I saw a post on our community page — and I literally squealed with joy! I contacted Sue immediately, and before I knew it, I was in the boat paddling. Something I had only dreamed about was suddenly becoming a reality.

Helen was amazing — so kind and patient while teaching me the basics. And everyone on the team has been so warm and welcoming.

I intend to continue my journey with these beautiful women and be a source of support in theirs!

Call or text Sue 0403 008 804 and join me and these special ladies in the boat 🐉

Hi!
My name is Maggie.
Seventeen years ago, when I needed it most in my life, breast cancer gave me a gift; Dragon boating with the DAM Busters.
A colleague invited me to a Come 'n Try at Docklands. At aged 60 and not having been in a team sport since I was a teenager, I was very unsure, however, I finally got the timing right and enjoyed the experience on the water immensely.
Since then, DAM Busters has been a huge part of my life. The “fun, fitness and friendship” creed of Dragon boating came to life for me.🐉💗
I have been so fortunate to be supported, to develop strong friendships and enjoy lots of travel to regattas locally, interstate and overseas.
I am proud to be a Tribal Elder in the DAM Buster team! 😀
If you would like to meet some wonderful people, and have a go yourself, please contact Sue on 0403 008 804 and get a FREE Dragon Pass to try for a month!

We don’t post throwbacks often.
But this one matters.
Almost four years ago, we celebrated
21 years on the water.
Some of the faces in these photos
are still paddling.
Some have passed the paddle on.
And some hadn’t even joined us yet.
That’s how teams last.
Today, we’re still building
on what was handed down —
with new hands, new energy,
and the same heart.
This is more than a milestone.
It’s a moment in a much longer story.
And this year, we’ll be celebrating
25 years on the water.
Watch this space to see how we mark it.

Hi, I'm Helen,
I came to Dragon boat paddling via a rather unusual path. When my husband and I moved to Vienna for work about 11 years ago an acquaintance said to me “I know you’ve had Breast Cancer. You should come join my new Pink Dragonboat team that I’m setting up”. I tried it and loved it – so I started a new sport in a foreign country (where it is virtually unknown), in a new language and having not done sport since my teenage years.
I quickly made so many life-long friends from not just Vienna but all around Europe and Australia. After only paddling for about 5 months I answered the call from Dam Busters for a replacement paddler for the Great River Race in London (33 km along the Thames) and that is how meet this lovely group of people. Every time I visited Melbourne to see family I tried to fit in a paddle with Dam Busters so it was only natural to join the Club when I returned permanently to Australia in 2022.
Since then I’ve paddled with the club almost every week and am now helping with Coaching. I’ve also been lucky enough to paddle for Victoria and last year I had the honour of paddling for Australia in the Senior C team at the World Championships in Germany.
The sport and the team have given me so much and I encourage anyone looking for fun, friendship and a challenge to give it a go.
The coaching team and paddlers will make sure you have a positive experience no matter what your physical fitness level or sporting experience.
For more details, call or text Sue on 0403 008 804 for a FREE month of paddling 🐲👏
