Welcome aboard this morning to our two newbies Sal and Loretta, it was a pleasure to have you onboard, you did remarkably well today! Amanda, our trainee Sweep is absolutely killing it too 👏 A big shout out to all our emergency workers fighting the fires in the Otways and other parts of the country. The harbour was very smoky today, so our thoughts are with all those firies, police, SES, ambos, medics and the amazing volunteers sheltering injured wildlife too ❤️‍🩹

Hi, I'm Yun!
When I first heard about DAM Busters BCS Dragonboat Club, I was almost at the end of my chemotherapy early Feb 2025. I imagined paddling in the Dragon Boat, perhaps racing in other parts of Australia and the world. I wondered if and how I could make this work as I had severe chording and tightness issues with my surgery arm, was in poor fitness, and was still receiving medical treatment. I decided, however, to try the sport with a few mates I met from the Epworth Camberwell breast cancer rehab group in March 2025.
The ladies from DAM Busters welcomed all the new paddlers with open arms in our trial sessions. They were very accommodating and patient in teaching us the craft of paddling. Their warmth and understanding quickly wiped away all my doubts and worries. Yes, this could definitely work! I felt supported, happy and at ease. I am so glad that I made that first step and gave it go with no expectations but hopefully to have a good time, make some friends, get some exercise and build up my fitness level.

I joined the club after a month of trial when I was in the middle of my radiotherapy treatment. Every time I’m in the boat, I feel free from the daily grind and worries. My eyes take in the stunning view of our beautiful city, my lungs breathe in that precious fresh air, and my heart fills with gratitude and appreciation.

I enjoy all aspects of paddling, as well as the social activities outside of the boat. The camaraderie and friendships I have formed are something very special to me. I look forward to every training session and the many Regatta opportunities this sport brings. I can’t wait to paddle in the Tassie Regatta in February.

This is an awesome team sport with a bunch of amazing ladies who have experienced breast cancer and understand its physical and emotional challenges. Thank you to everyone in DAM Busters for welcoming us to this wonderful club. We have one goal in mind - in unison we move forward one stroke at a time! Come join us and we will take you on an incredible journey!

Our lovely friend Joie, who paddles with the fabulous Bribie Pink Dragon was lucky enough to be part of the 1st Inaugural Regatta in Ballina, County Mayo on the River Moy during her trip to Ireland last year!

Joie was welcomed by the Belfast Lagun Dragons with the whole town of Ballina turning out to welcome teams from Dragons Abreast Belfast, Dublin's Plurabelles, Cork, Donegal, Carlow and others!

Laguns really took Joie to their hearts, looking after her like gold and giving her the red carpet treatment. What an amazing experience with loads of laughs and great camaraderie. 🐉💞
We are all part of such an amazing community, not only in Australia, but around the world!

It was a "little less conversation, a little more action" — for some of our DAM Buster ladies at the Elvis festival in Parkes this week. When we are not paddling, we figure "Its Now or Never" to get out and enjoy life🎙🎸🐉

DAM Busters – You had me at “Come and Try!”
My name is Jan, and back in 2007, I came along to a Come & Try session at Docklands and have never looked back.
I’ve had so much fun in the boat and with the women in this team since then. I’d never been particularly sporty, certainly never in a sports team, but that really didn’t matter at all. I was warmly welcomed and, as time went on, I learnt the basics and was paddling regularly.
It was — and still is — all about the fun, the friendships, the joy and comfort of shared experiences, as well as the pleasure of simply being out on the water. When I was working, I always looked forward to Tuesday evenings. It was a real circuit breaker after the stress of the day to be paddling at sunset with my mates — so calming, peaceful, and great for regaining perspective.
Over the years I’ve participated in Regattas around Victoria as well as interstate in Darling Harbour, Coolangatta, the Five Bridges and Barrington events in Tasmania, and of course, the awesome 55 km Ord River Marathon in WA.
I still pinch myself when I think of our overseas adventures, including paddling in Peterborough in Canada, Florence and in Venice. These travel adventures with my teammates are among my very best memories — adventures I would not have had without the team, and challenges I may not have otherwise tackled.
I’ve been blessed with lifelong friends and incredible experiences through DAM Busters over the past 18 years, and I intend to still be paddling in another 18!
Come along to a DAM Busters BCS Dragon Boat Club - Come & Try Session and see for yourself.
