It ain’t weak to speak 💙

Things feeling a little foggy? 🧠Brain power is critical for mental health and emotional wellbeing 💙. If you’re unable to focus, make decisions and are relying on coffee or snacks to get you through, then it’s time you took a break 🙅‍♂️. Lack of sleep, overconsumption of sugar, lack of nutrients, depression, or even thyroid disorders can cause brain fog. Take some time to get your routine right and put yourself first. It’s not selfish - it’s essential 💙Tree location: unknown

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

It is not every year that R U OK? Day and WSPD are back to back..just a stroke of luck this year!

But to some, this might seem like everyone, particularly on social media, is talking about Su***de a little TOO much this week.....

But is there really such a thing as TOO much conversations about Su***de?

Let’s look at the facts...

The world health organisation estimates that worldwide, one person is lost to Su***de EVERY 40 seconds..

EVERY 40 seconds...

In Australia, one person on average, dies as a result of Su***de EVERY 3 hours..

Su***de is also the LEADING cause of death for people aged 15-44, with Indigenous Australians TWO TIMES more likely to die from Su***de than non-indigenous people.

So really, when you think about it...we are probably not talking about it enough..

So when we are talking about Su***de what should we say??

How do we safely talk about Su***de with people?

It is a common question and also highlights one of the most COMMON misconceptions...that talking about it, that bringing it up to someone who is struggling with depression, will somehow trigger them to harm themselves.

This is ABSOLUTELY not true..

This is a MYTH..

In fact, it is proven that having open and non-judgemental conversations with people about Su***de is actually ESSENTIAL for Su***de prevention.

How do we protect people from Su***de if we are not comfortable talking about Su***de to them?

So if you are worried about someone, if someone’s behaviour has changed, if they appear to be struggling or if you know that they have had a life-changing event such as a relationship breakdown, a loss of job or recent loss of any description and they seem to not really be themselves or be coming with the change very well..

FIRST, reach out and start a conversation, ask them R U OK?

BUT.. if the answer is NO... “I’m not ok...”

“I can’t do this anymore”
“I feel hopeless”
“I can’t handle this”
“It’s all too much”

Or ANY other statement that points to the fact that they are struggling with life..then your next question MUST be;

“Are you thinking about Su***de?”

“Have you been having any suicidal thoughts?”

“What do you mean by “you don’t want to do this anymore?” - are you thinking about killing yourself?”

“ Have you been having any deadly thoughts or thoughts of self-harm?”

“Are you at risk of hurting or killing yourself?”

You will absolutely NOT encourage someone to consider Su***de by talking about Su***de...

Please know this is an established fact..

Talking about Su***de with people who may be at risk is a safe and crucial means of preventing loss of life to Su***de..

So please, let’s not hold back..

Let’s not avoid the topic..

Let’s cover the topic of Su***de and Mental Illness in sunshine and love and compassion and conversation until there is absolutely no stigma left.

And if you or someone you know is in need of support, help IS available..

R U OK?Day is coming up on Thursday (Sep 9). Do you know how the people in your world are really going? As close as we might be, sometimes it's hard to tell.

Life's ups and downs happen to all of us. So chances are someone you know might be struggling.

So make a moment meaningful and ask them how they’re really going. It could be a coffee break, while driving, over text or during exercising together.

Are they really OK? Ask them today. Because your conversation could change a life.

To our amazing CSC babes of Dubbo,
Being named as a Covid exposure site - (even though we have been downgradded to a casual contact site only due to our stringent policies and procedures) is crippling to small businesses such as ours.

As a small insight, our venue stands to lose around $30,000 over the past week due to staff isolating, food wastage and bookings lost.
This will take weeks or months to recover from for a small business like ours but we are committed to paying our staff and remaining open to try and mitigate any losses and support our community.
If you’d like to help - let us cook for you this week or even just pop in for a coffee. Order ahead here with our app - https://bit.ly/3vvP9AQ
It would be our honour, and you would be helping more than you know!
Stay safe, stay healthy and we look forward to seeing you soon! 🥰☕️

Hey Everyone- we need your help!!

The network is collecting some photos of people for a community mural we are putting together here in Dubbo. It is part of a Su***de Prevention Network initiative where we are showing what great support systems we have.

It can be of you and a friend, family groups, your mob, your workmates- absolutely anything!! We need as many as we can by this Friday. If you have one that you would like to include can you please either drop it in a message on this post or inbox us with it with a little sentence saying you give me consent to use it. Please make sure you also ask for consent for the person/people in the photo with you too.

Love your work, and thankyou! 🙏
