What is Yin Yoga?
Yin balances out yang energy - the heat, heavy lifting, busyness and constant movement.
In Yin, we hold supported postures for several minutes at a time.
We’re working with the fascia, the deeper connective tissue, which needs time to gently stretch.
The longer holds allow the body to fully let go. We slow down and go within, which can be harder, mentally, than a more active class.
I’m currently deepening my studies in Yin, and appreciating the power of doing less.

Last weekend I had the privilege to observe and support the teachers with the 2026 yoga teacher training intensive. It was also a chance to revisit the fundamentals of yoga from the perspective of the Krishnamacharya lineage, a year after I graduated from my own teacher training. I was reminded that yoga is a gateway to life-long inquiry and a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we live in. There’s so much depth and possibility through yoga. Though I’ve practiced for decades, I’m still just scratching the surface and remain in awe.

Hot weather asks for a different kind of yoga.

Yin-style practice is slower, more passive, and close to the floor — longer holds, fewer transitions, less effort. We use props like blocks and bolsters to support the body to soften and melt into a position, rather than force.

It’s the antidote or counterbalance to the ‘yang’, high energy, intensity of summer.

This week’s updates:
• Friday 9th class is 7:00am (instead of 10:00am- to beat the heat)
• An extra 8:00am class this Saturday at Farmstrong.
Our current classes are leaning more Yin-style — slow, steady, and mostly on the floor. Poses are held a little longer, allowing the body to soften rather than work hard. A good match for hot weather.
Full schedule via the link in bio. Farmstrong members book in the app, others DM me.
