As mothers, when asked how we’re doing, we often focus on our kids, family, or household, replying with, “We’re good, my kids are good.” While it’s important to care for our children, we often forget to care for ourselves. 💖

Most support for mothers is aimed at helping us manage our kids or families, but it rarely focuses on us, the mother. Today, I’m asking: How are YOU doing? 🤔

Today, in the midst of extreme weather in my area (cyclone alfred is here and we're advised to stay home), when asked how I was doing, I caught myself almost automatically said, “We’re okay, no damage to the house, kids are good, though bored...” 🌧️ But what I really felt was a slight overwhelm (from keeping the kids busy indoors for 3 days) and guilt for admitting it (I should know better how to do this by now, right?). 😣

Moms, when’s the last time you checked in with yourself? Are you feeling stressed, drained, stuck, or just “meh”? These are signs of nervous system dysregulation. ⚡

The daily struggles of exhausted midlife moms... 😩

It’s that constant feeling of dragging through each day because you can't get proper rest, running on empty, knowing tomorrow will be just like today—unless you somehow manage to sleep tonight. 😴

You might feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. But even when you do, it often feels half-hearted, simply because you don’t have the same energy or motivation you once had. 💔

I get it, because I’ve been there.

I used to be full of energy. Did you feel that way too? 💪 From morning till night, I wore my energy like a badge of honor. 🏅

Then perimenopause hit. I had no clue how it would impact my energy. No one prepared me for the sudden, all-consuming fatigue that came with it. 😔

Fatigue starts in the muscles – the cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscles. 🧠💪

In these muscles, tiny organelles called mitochondria produce the energy molecule ATP. ⚡ They do this constantly, day in and day out.

But during peri+menopause, these mitochondria can become unbalanced and inflamed.

No amount of dieting or exercise may solve the problem either. In fact, overexerting yourself with intense exercise can actually hurt your energy levels if you’re not getting enough sleep. 💤

And when you’re sleep-deprived and dealing with chronic fatigue, it can take a toll on your health as you age. 😞
