Trauma is often treated as purely psychological, but modern neuroscience shows us it is deeply rooted in our physiology. It’s a reordering of the nervous system.
When we are stuck in a trauma response, our body is constantly screaming “threat” to our brain. Talk therapy is vital, but sometimes you cannot talk your body out of a state of terror.
This is why somatic (body-based) practices like breathwork are becoming pillars of trauma recovery.

For the Abs: “The Forced Exhale” (Active Toning)
This targets the Transverse Abdominis. If you have a “pooch” or lower belly curve, this is the muscle that flattens it. 
The Technique:
1. Inhale: Take a normal breath in through the nose.
2. The Squeeze: Exhale through the mouth with a “Shhhhh” sound (like you are silencing a library).
3. The Action: As you make the sound, visualize wrapping a corset tight around your waist. Pull your belly button in toward your spine and up toward your ribs. 
4. The Hold: When you think you are empty, squeeze out one more drop of air. You should feel a deep, hard tightening in your lower stomach. 
5. Repeat 10 times.
Why this works: The Transverse Abdominis is an exhalation muscle. You cannot fully empty your lungs without contracting it. By forcing the exhale, you are essentially doing a “sit-up” from the inside out. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
