BIG NEWS! Little Rockets is moving to Monty in November!
It's been a crazy few months behind the scenes here at Little Rockets - however we are excited to *finally* be able to confirm that our new clinic space is going ahead. We've loved our little clinic space in Eltham, however as you may have noticed, we have outgrown it just slightly.
Unfortunately we have been unable to align the move with our lease ending (anyone who is a Grand Designs fan will understand when I say our initial timeline blew out), so we will be in temporary digs from 13th Oct until sometime in early November.
We still be offering appointments and will do our very best to ensure there is minimal impact or disruption to your usual appointment schedule.
Stay tuned for updates!

Our School Readiness Program is almost here! We have a 3 out of 6 spaces remaining for our term 3 program. The program is facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and Early Childhood Educator and supports transition from the child-led kinder environment into a teacher-led classroom environment. We do this by focusing on group learning skills like following teacher-led activities, transitioning between tasks and collaborating with peers, in addition to developing your child's fine motor skills. P R O B L E M S O L V I N G
One of the best skills we can help children achieve is problem solving.
Our job as a therapist and as a parent isn't to always provide the answers, our job is to provide the safe, supported place for our children to give things a go and make mistakes. Our job is to be there when they try and it doesn't work, to cheer them on when they change their plan and try again!

Here my job was to dictate the steps in this little person's plan. Use of a structured problem-solving framework like the CO-OP Approach is a great and effective way to support children to develop their problem-solving skills. If your little one is getting stuck in the problem - reach out to a paediatric OT for support. We love problem-solving and teaching kids to do the same!

T O I L E T I N G

A milestone worth celebrating once achieved, however one that can feel like a really long time coming (like reeaaallllllyyy long). There is a HUGE age range of what is considered 'typical' for achieving this goal, so tip #1 is always to go easy on your child AND on yourself.

If you are wondering where to begin with toilet training, here are some tips to get started:
πŸš€ using a potty or step/stool combo - whatever enables your child to feel safe and ensures their feet are supported (seriously - if their feet are not dangling, it can make a huge difference)
πŸš€ normalise using the toilet by allowing your child to watch you use the toilet (some parent's worst nightmare, some parent's everyday)
πŸš€ practice toilet timing - most people need to go about 15 - 20min after a meal, so plan for this and/or set reminders
πŸš€ celebrate success - we are all wired to repeat things when we feel successful at them. Use whatever system works for you and your beliefs, but remember - rewards are ok (you won't destroy your child's system of internal motivation by giving them a sticker for using the potty, I promise)
πŸš€ supervised nakey time can also be very helpful - have a home day and watch for your child's cues when they need to go, then support them to go on the potty/toilet

And if you feel like the toilet room has turned into a battle ground, please reach out for support! OT's are a great place to get some support and advice to help reboot your toilet training progress and get you back on the road towards that 'final nappy party!' πŸ₯³πŸš€
