Did you know that exercise can help to manage many symptoms that can come with Endometriosis?

Here are some benefits of exercise for endo:

1. Exercise can help to improve pain management.

2. Exercise can help to improve mental health, self-confidence and mood.

3. Exercise can help to improve your strength, aerobic fitness and flexibility.

4. Exercise can help to improve posture.

5. Exercise can help with core and pelvic floor.

6. Exercise can help to improve with digestion.

If you're experiencing pain due to endo, and you're not sure where to start because of your symptoms, we highly recommend seeking advice from a women's health exercise physiologist or women's health physiotherapist to create you an individualised plan with specific exercises to suit you. Rule of thumb is to start small and build up gradually over time.

Stay tuned, as in our next post, we will talk about what kinds of exercise are beneficial for Endometriosis!

Following on from Rhi’s favourite stretches during her pregnancy, we thought we would share some of the reasons why stretching during pregnancy is so beneficial 🙌

1️⃣ Appropriate stretching can help to alleviate muscle aches and pains, particularly in our back and hips
2️⃣ Performing stretches to help with your posture and reduce muscle tension can help with core engagement, function and stability
3️⃣ Reducing muscle tension increases blood flow and therefore contributes to improved circulation and reduced swelling
4️⃣ Performing regular stretching promotes mindfulness and connection with your body

Try implementing some regular stretching in your daily routine and let us know how you feel!
Happy stretching! 🤰🤰🤰

Did you know that exercise is super beneficial during your pregnancy?

Of course, exercise needs to be modified and individualised throughout your pregnancy. But with appropriate modifications to accommodate the growing baby, the posture changes, the potential nausea, fatigue and so on...exercise can help to improve your physical and mental health outcomes throughout your pregnancy.

Not sure where to start? Chat to your local women's health exercise physiologist!

We are here to chat in person or online! Reach out if you'd like some guidance 😊

Let's talk about abdominal separation!

Abdominal separation, or diastasis recti, is when the left and right sides of the re**us abdominis muscles "separate "

Down the centre of our "6 pack" muscles is a line/band of connective tissue, that runs from the sternum to the p***c bone called the linea alba.

During abdominal separation, the linea alba thins like bluetack, appearing as a separation between the abdominal muscles.

During pregnancy, we see abdominal separation as the belly stretches to accommodate for the growing baby, and this is normal. However, with overloading, excessive abdominal pressure, rushing back to exercise too soon after having a baby...this can lead to complications. It's also important to note, that some people do everything right, and still experience complications from abdominal separation...so whilst there are ways that we can reduce the risk of complications, more many women, it's challenging to avoid (eg with Hypermobility disorders for example).

Whilst commonly an issue during pregnancy and post baby, it's not just a pregnancy condition. Abdominal separation can also occur in men and women without pregnancy. It can occur from surgeries, weakness, weight gain for example.

Why is it important to address?
Complications around abdominal separation can cause weakness of the core and back which can lead to back pain. In addition, it can lead to pelvic floor problems, digestive issues, and can also impact oir self esteem due to changes in physical appearance. It can also increase risk of developing abdominal hernias.

Through individualised exercise program and rehabilitation, you can improve your symptoms.

Our exercise physiologists Tresna and Rhi are here to help you with exercise to help improve core strength, and to help you return to exercise safely ❤️

After having a baby, we are holding our babies for long durations and often in uncomfortable positions. We are also constantly picking them up from cots, prams and from the ground, and this repetitive movement (especially as they grow heavier and heavier!) can certainly take a toll on our bodies and cause tightness, aches, pains and injuries!

Whilst it's very challenging to rest from the aggravating behaviour (we need to carry our babies, hard to avoid!), there are some things we can do to help:

🔅 Share the load where you can! Ask for help.

🔅 Take opportunities to relax: focus on breath work, apply heat packs, do some gentle stretches, have a massage...

🔅 Engage in specific strength exercises to help with posture and function

🔅 Try and feed baby in a proper chair and a pillow under the baby so you're not needing to lean forward as much.

🔅Seek advice from a women's health Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist for guidance if pain persists!

Hello to our pregnant friends!

Are you pregnant and feeling stiff and achy and a little bit over it?

I remember how stiff and sore I felt during my pregnancy, that's for sure! My mid back (thoracic area) in particular was so tight and achy!

And stretching helped me drastically 😊

Stretching during pregnancy can help to relax you and unwind you. Your body is going through so much change, it's no wonder it's feeling a bit tired and over it!

If you'd like us to help you to incorporate some stretches designed specifically for you during your pregnancy, please reach out to our women's health exercise physiologists, Tresna and Rhiannon. Not only only are we fully qualified exercise physiologists, we are also mummas of two kids...we get it! 🧡🩷
