A common question we hear is:
“Why do only some people develop skin cancer?”
The answer is rarely simple.
Skin cancer risk increases due to a combination of factors that often build slowly over many years, including:
• Repeated UV exposure (even on cloudy or cooler days)
• Skin type, number of moles, and age
• Occupation and everyday sun exposure
• Smoking, previous skin cancers, or radiation exposure
• Immune system health and certain medical conditions
• Genetics and family history
One important point many people miss:
Most people who develop skin cancer didn’t believe they were “high risk.”
Knowing where you stand isn’t about panic — it’s about awareness.
And awareness leads to earlier checks and better outcomes.
When in doubt, checking is safer than guessing.
