This morning on our Facebook we welcomed the opening for discussion by The Independent around what DCD is. We wrote about what really sits behind these terms including:
• DCD is the broad umbrella.
• Dyspraxia describes specific sensory motor presentations and research identified patterns within that umbrella.
• Identifying dyspraxia helps therapists provide targeted, meaningful support that respects each person’s individuality and strengths
This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about DCD. Last month we published an article on our website titled ‘Beyond the Diagnosis: Why DCD Awareness Must Include the Senses’ following on from a recent publication by Meachon and De Roubaix.
💭 At ASI Wise we agree that there is a need for better awareness, clearer pathways to support, and a united effort across education, healthcare and research. However, we also believe that we need an understanding of the sensory foundations of coordination and praxis, and that awareness without sensory insight can never be enough.
Visit our website to read our new article on this topic, where we outline why DCD awareness must include the senses, and explore the steps needed for real change.
