When your baby is crying, and you can’t work out why, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. Remember, crying is simply their way of communicating.

Once you have checked the essentials (nappy, tummy, temperature), simple, gentle connections like the one shown here are often the best remedy.

A few things that can help:
🍃 Holding them close for warmth and your familiar heartbeat.
🍃 Rhythmic movement (gentle swaying or using a carrier).
🍃 Stepping outside for fresh air to reset you both.
🍃 Dimming lights and reducing noise to minimise stimulation.

Remember to take it one moment at a time. If the crying is raising your stress, it is always okay to place them safely in their cot and step away to take a few deep breaths.

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Yvonne Baker to the Sage Women’s Specialists team.

Yvonne is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who is dedicated to providing safe, compassionate and personalised care for women at every stage of their journey. She cares for all pregnancies, from straightforward to more complex, and also supports patients with a range of gynaecological concerns including PCOS, abnormal periods, ovarian cysts and contraception.

Yvonne completed her training across several leading hospitals including the Mercy Hospital for Women, where she now also holds a public appointment and helps train the next generation of doctors.

Outside of work, she’s kept busy by her three energetic children and enjoys yoga, baking and time in the garden.
