Relationships Studio is a holistic counselling service located in the vibrant suburb of Fortitude Valley offering in-person and telehealth (video or telephone) appointments across Australia. Established in 2018, Relationships Studio strives to provide a nurturing and peaceful environment for clients to explore their innate needs and concerns. We believe that our role is to walk alongside you and support you on your journey towards recovery and healing to lead a full and enriching life. Meet Desert 🐩 our resident Animal Assisted Therapy dog in training who is joining me in the Studio today.

Desert is a playful pooch! He enjoys meeting new people, climbing up on the couch for cuddles (only when he's invited), nuzzling his head up to you and playing tug.

Great news for people with allergies…Desert's breed is a standard black poodle which means he rarely sheds hair and is considered hypoallergenic.

Animal Assisted Therapy means that Desert is being trained to assist in the ther**eutic process, where the clinician is providing evidence-based ther**eutic modalities. Some of the magic of Therapy Dogs in comparison to Assistance dogs can be explained by their ability to:
✨Motivate clients to attend and participate in therapy sessions.
🌈Help clients balance their emotions.
❤️Promote a hormone called oxytocin which is associated with empathy and relationship-building. It is commonly referred to as the “love hormone”.
🐩And drive social interactions..to name a few.

And just in case you’re not feeling like Animal Assisted Therapy today…Desert has his own crate in the Studio where he can retreat for a break.

Do you know your own ‘LOVE LANGUAGE’? 💞

Most of us appreciate a mixture of the five love languages but there is usually a top two or three that are vital to us for feeling love and appreciation in our relationships.

Often we place emphasis on our own love language as it is the one we would most like to receive and the one we apply the most. Although, in relationships it is about understanding your loved ones ‘love language’ and putting it into practice so that they feel loved and appreciated.

Here are the ‘5’ Love Languages developed by Gary Chapman
💬 Words of Affirmation
I feel loved and valued when you share verbal acknowledgement, encouragement, and praise such as "I love you”, "You look great today”, or "I'm so proud of you."
🤝 Acts of Service
I feel loved and valued when you help me with tasks or complete chores. This can include running errands, doing house chores, or making a meal for us.
💐 Receiving Gifts
I feel loved and valued when I receive a symbol of thoughtfulness from you. It does not have to be expensive or extravagant; it can be as simple as a handwritten note or a small token of appreciation.
🕒Quality Time
I feel loved and valued when we spend time together and have meaningful moments doing something we enjoy. This means having your undivided and dedicated attention. Biggest tip: Put your phone down and turn off the tv.
🫂 Physical Touch
I feel loved and valued when I receive physical affection from you. This can be as platonic as a hug from a friend, an enthusiastic fist-bump or as intimate as a kiss with a partner to start the day.

Everyone has a different love language, and what works for one person may not work for another. Understanding your partner’s, friend’s or child’s love language can help you communicate your feelings more effectively to build a stronger and more fulfilling relationship.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Today is the celebration of International Women's Day 💜

Whilst we've certainly made strides in gender equality since 1911, when only eight countries allowed women to vote. Further, equal pay for equal work was unheard of – if women were allowed to work at all – and reproductive rights were non-existent. There is still more we can do!

In Australia, on average, women have to work an extra 56 days per year to earn the same as men. This means that we still have a gender pay gap of approximately 13.3%.

Internationally:

🔸47 countries still have no repercussions for husbands who r**e their wife.

🔸2.7 billion women are legally restricted from having the same choice of jobs as men.

🔸45 countries do not have specific laws against domestic violence.

🔸30% of women globally have experienced sexual or physical violence in their lifetime.

Happy New Year folks💫

Today is National Vision Board Day, it could not be timelier to kick off our first post of 2024!

National Vision Board Day is the second Saturday in January that encourages us to set our goals in a visual way. Originally, vision board parties began in 2010 between a group of friends as a way for people to get together in a fun environment to set goals, cast a vision and dream out loud in a tangible way. They then mount on their completed vision boards on their walls where they would see them every day. Seeing their hopes and dreams helps set in motion these visions and ideas to become a reality.

What goes on a vision board?
Your dreams and goals for 2024..this can be your personal goals, business or career goals, travel goals, relationship goals, or social goals to name a few.

It is important to describe your goals in vivid detail with pictures, drawings, lists of quotes. For example, if your savings goal is a new car, don't just write 'new car'. Describe the make, model and even the colour you'd like.

If you get stuck, explore the following questions...
• How can I be happier at work? Do I have new career goals? What's my dream job?
• How can I create a healthier body and mind?
• What are my financial goals? What major purchases do I want to save for?
• How can I improve relationships with my partner, friends, or family?
• Do I have any goals specific to my relationship with my partner or with my relationship to myself I want to work on?
• Are there any activities I'd like to try? What have I always wanted to learn?
• What's a destination I've always wanted to travel to?
• How do I want to feel every day?

Once you’ve taken a moment to brainstorm… Get out the sticky notes, markers, and inspiration and enjoy plotting your goals for the new year!

Oxytocin connects us to other people 👥

The best way to get more into your life is with According to Dr. Paul J. Zak aka Dr Love, 8 hugs per day or a 20 second hug can achieve a spike in oxytocin levels, as well as a decrease in blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels.

We can't think of a better reason to hug someone 🤗

What if there is no one around to hug? That’s okay! Cuddling your pet works too🔹Talking and connecting with your friends🔹Physical exercise or,🔹Listening to your favourite music can also help to boost your oxytocin levels.
