When Melissa lost her baby, she was met with silence. No guidance. No community. So she built one. This conversation dives into early pregnancy loss, the grief we don’t talk about, and the support families truly need. A reminder: no one should walk this path alone.

A memorial garden for babies gone too soon. A place for families to grieve, remember, and breathe. In this episode, Melissa shares the heart behind the Butterfly Garden and the realities of early pregnancy loss that often go unseen.

NEW EPISODE TODAY When Melissa King lost her baby in 2011, she discovered an unexpected silence. No information, no pathway to support, and very few people willing to talk openly about miscarriage. Out of that heartbreak, she founded Miscarriage Information Support Service (MISS), Australia’s first miscarriage-specific not-for-profit providing free resources, care packages, and a sense of community for people affected by early pregnancy loss.

New Episode Tomorrow
In this conversation, Melissa shares her personal story of loss and how it inspired her to create a space where grief is acknowledged, not hidden. We talk about why early pregnancy loss is still misunderstood, how society’s reluctance to discuss death and miscarriage leaves families isolated, and what real support looks like for people going through it.

Sunday the 16th of November is Thank You Day – a day to acknowledge and say thanks to living and deceased organ and tissue donors, and their families.
Each year, thousands of lives are transformed through the generosity of organ and tissue donors.
In Australia, your family is always asked to say yes before donation goes ahead. In 2024, 767 families said yes to donation, giving an incredible gift to others during a very difficult time for themselves.
Join me in saying a heartfelt thank you to organ and tissue donors, and their families.

Trans Awareness Week 🌈
This week is about visibility, understanding and standing alongside our trans and gender diverse communities. It’s a time to listen, learn, and recognise the barriers many still face — especially when it comes to healthcare, aged care, grief, and end-of-life decision-making.

In my recent conversation with Bronte Price — Australia’s leading LGBTQIA+ celebrant — we spoke about how trans and q***r people often have to advocate harder to ensure their identities, relationships and wishes are respected in weddings, funerals and end-of-life planning.

From families trying to override someone’s funeral plans…
to aged care environments that don’t feel safe to express identity…
to the absence of “rainbow sections” in cemeteries…

These are real experiences — and they’re changeable.

This week, being an ally can look like:
• Using someone’s correct name and pronouns
• Asking who a person trusts and wants included in decision-making
• Learning about chosen family and how it matters in end-of-life planning
• Supporting inclusive services and practitioners

Kindness is powerful.
Visibility is powerful.
Listening is powerful.

Bronte's journey from government roles to celebrancy is a wild ride, sparked by a friend's nudge and his passion for authentic ceremonies. We explore why q***r weddings and funerals need to ditch heteronormative assumptions – think safe spaces, non-binary pronouns, and rituals that honour real stories, not stereotypes.

In this Episode with Bronte Price we also touch on personal tales, like Bronte's own marriage to Clint and their rescue dog Bingo, plus the wisdom of embracing unfinished business in life and death. Bronte's insights remind us that dying isn't one-size-fits-all

World Kindness Day 💛

Kindness has the power to soften even the heaviest moments in life.
Today, we’re encouraged to offer gentle care — especially to those who may be grieving or carrying something quietly.

Here are some small, meaningful ways to show kindness:

Send a simple message
You don’t need perfect words. “I’m thinking of you today” can mean so much.

Offer something practical
A meal, a cup of tea, or help with errands can lighten the load when life feels overwhelming.

Listen without fixing
Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is simply be present.

Check in gently
You can stay connected without expecting a reply. A soft touchpoint matters.

Remember their person
Mentioning a loved one’s name or remembering an important date can be a beautiful act of kindness.

✨ On World Kindness Day, remember:
Kindness doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful.
It just needs to be real.
