Winter is officially here, full of gorgeous, vibrant produce.
Citrus fruits packed with vitamin C for immune health, avocados are in their prime, offering essential fatty acids amazing for glowing skin and optimal brain function, olives (my personal favourite) for cardiovascular health and pumpkins, which are flourishing and a nutritional powerhouse. Packed with nutrients, the bright, deep orange colour of pumpkins immediately tells you that it's packed with the antioxidant beta-carotene, which is great for skin and eye health, and vitamins A and C.

Autumn is officially here. It's my favourite time of year!
The cool, sunny days, crisp evenings, and falling leaves bring me such a sense of peace and joy.
Beautiful produce is in abundance this season. Fruits and vegetables with hues of red, orange, green, and yellow provide high amounts of antioxidants, vitamin C, betacarotene, immune stimulating benefits and improves heart heart and brain function.
The health benefits of leafy greens provide minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron which are vital for strong bones, healthy muscles, nerve function and oxygen transport.
Fibre, which promotes healthy gut bacteria, aids digestion, regulates blood sugar, and can reduce inflammation and bloating.
Use pumpkin in delicious risottos, my favourite is pumpkin and sage, make a brightly coloured kale salads as a side, snack on pomegranates (my son loves them), use berries in smoothies or try the viral Asian cucumber salad to help enjoy a variety of gorgeous seasonal produce this autumn 🍂

If you're struggling with hair loss or thinning, you're far from alone. It can occur for several reasons, including hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, and stress, just to name a few.
It's always best to visit your doctor to determine what's going on before diving into any possible treatments.
Recently, castor oil has become very popular in the treatment of hair loss, despite having no scientific evidence to back up this claim.
The molecular structure of castor oil is too large to pe*****te the hair follicles and can actually clog the pores, which may lead to even further hair loss.
I suggest using jojoba oil with a few drops of pure Rosemary essential oil to massage your scalp and stimulate hair growth before washing it.
There are quite a few studies showing positive outcomes for Rosemary oil and hair strength, growth, and less fall out when used correctly.

Let's talk hair!
I've always had thick hair that grows very quickly, and as a Leo, it's my crowning glory.
Recently, I've lost almost 10kg and couple that with perimenopause, I've started losing quite a bit of hair, and it's now thinner than it's ever been. Understandably, this has been a very upsetting experience for me.
In the health food store I work at, and when I'm in the clinic, it's probably the number one reason women come in to seek advice.
There are quite a few reasons for hair loss, including rapid weight loss which stresses the body, hormonal imbalances, perimenopause and menopause, high stress levels, consuming inadequate amounts of protein, thyroid issues and vitamin & mineral deficiencies, most commonly zinc, iron, vitamin D, selenium and B12.
It's always a good idea to get a full blood test to see what you're lacking in.
I'm making sure I'm prioritising these, as well as changing up my haircare routine and using an LED brush to stimulate hair growth. I'm also working on my stress levels as I tend to be someone who overthinks and gets overwhelmed quite easily.
I've already noticed less hair falling out, and in time, I'll see some new growth, like everything it just takes time.
Check out what I'm talking to help me regain my full head of hair.

From December to February, stone fruit and cherries are in abundance. Enjoy fresh, sweet blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, or combine in a yummy recipe or refreshing smoothie.
Cherries are at their peak deliciousness in the warmer months and are a perfect addition to your festive celebrations. Melons and mangoes are also at their best in the summer months. My favourite fruit is mango 🥭
Brightly coloured produce contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and it's not only better for you to buy seasonal produce, it's also better for your bank account.

Also known as Milk thistle, St Mary's Thistle is primarily used to protect and regenerate the liver. Used internally for the treatment of jaundice, hepatitis, liver damage, cirrhosis, and poisoning (from alcohol, drugs and chemicals).
St Mary's Thistle also minimises the side-effects of cancer chemotherapy, and increases breast milk production.
One of my top 10 favourite herbs.

It's Herbal Medicine Week.
Blending individualised Herbal tinctures for my clients is by far my favourite part about being a Naturopath and Herbalist.
They work quickly, can be tailored for a variety of health needs and often negate the need to prescribe extra supplements.
Medicinal plants are a valuable source of a wide variety of chemical molecules having different structures and functionalities that exhibit important biological activities and are linked to a multitude of beneficial properties, providing immune modulation, hormone balancing, antiviral and anti-inflammatory benefits just to name a few.

Spring is officially here, even though you wouldn't know it by the crazy weather we've been having lately here in Adelaide.
What cook hasn’t yearned for the fresh flavour of spring’s first asparagus or peas, or the juicy sweetness of locally grown strawberries? They’re just two of the luscious produce items that make their yearly debut when the weather first begins to warm up, along with corn, potatoes, mandarins, blood oranges, carrots, artichokes, spinach and lemons.
Hues of yellows, oranges and green packed full of Vitamin C and A, folate, potassium and antioxidants make for delicious produce that can be turned into creative meals for much cheaper than non seasonal fruits and vegetables, especially when purchased from local farmers markets which is my favourite way to spend a sunny weekend.

Digestive enzymes are proteins that break down larger molecules such as fats, carbohydrates and proteins into smaller molecules that are easier to absorb across the small intestine.

Without sufficient digestive enzymes, the body is unable to digest food particles effectively, which often leads to food intolerances, bloating, constipation, hesrtburn, nausea and reflux.

Digestive enzymes can be obtained from supplpements or naturally through certain foods.

Foods that contain natural digestive enzymes include pineapples, papayas, honey, avocados, yoghurt, pickles, kimchi, miso, kiwifruit and ginger.

Adding any of these foods to your diet helps to promote optimal digestion and gut health.
