We would like to acknowledge the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations. We are committed to listening, learning and supporting First Nations and Torres Strait Islander young people and communities.
In 2008, the Australian Parliament formally acknowledged the laws and government practices that led to the forced removal of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, communities and culture. The strength, survival and voices of Stolen Generations survivors continue to be recognised and honoured.
This is not distant or disconnected from the present. Its impacts are still felt by many individuals, families and communities today.
For some, this day is a time of reflection or learning. For others it may bring personal or complex feelings. There is no right or wrong way to hold the day.
If today feels heavy, it is okay to slow down, check in with yourself, connect with people you trust, spend time on Country, or care for yourself in ways that feel right.
Support is here if you need it. Below are some resources you may wish to connect with, and please know headspace is here for you too.
