Avoid leaving your pets outside, make sure plenty of water available to them at all times, if your house gets quite hot keep the blinds closed.
For dogs and cats, cooling pads, place a wet towel on top of a dry towel for them to lay on.
You can even pour some water on their back every now and then.

Please bring rabbits and Guinea pigs and ferrets indoors and provide unlimited cool drinking water.
You can freeze water bottles and place on the ground for them to lye next to to cool down. Put ice cubes in their water bowls to keep drinking water cool. You can also lightly mist their ears and back with cool water to cool them down.
Keep caged birds inside where possible do not leave in direct sunlight you can use water mist sprays make sure always fresh water to drink and bathe and always ensure they have shade.
For our wildlife and homeless cats:
Providing shallow containers of water around your yard, ideally in the shade. Remember to keep the containers clean, refresh frequently and be sure to change the water daily to deter mosquitos from breeding.
Placing sticks or stones in the containers to allow smaller animals that fall in, a way out.
Check your swimming pools make sure there is something for wildlife to climb out on. Frog logs are great and can be found on ebay. Pic provided below.
Keeping cats and dogs indoor to protect the wildlife that may be in a weakened state.
If a flying-fox is on the ground, low branch or entangled in netting on very hot days, you can provide shade with an umbrella or towel and call WILDLIFE VICTORIA 8400 7300. If you cant get through you can msg me and i will log an urgent case with Wildlife Victoria. These animals can only be handled by trained and vaccinated rescuers do not touch! Bats are beautiful sweet animals they are protected and the grey headed flying fox is endangered and a threatened species please report any bat in distress IMMEDIATELY.
Animals like possums and koalas will start to drop out of trees in these temperatures particularly after multiple days of hot weather. Any possum you see out during the day is in trouble please report it, if you are able to do so with gloves and a towel move them to the shade or provide shade with an umbrella towel or box but make sure there is air flow. If you need advice on how to help or contain them please msg me, my car is in the shop for another week but I'll see what I can do to get you help otherwise please phone WILDLIFE VICTORIA on 8400 7300.
