Last year, with our friend Helen Green Photos, we launched our local area dog coffee table book. A beautiful celebration of the dogs who make our community so special 🐾

Since then, we’ve seen so many incredible pets and their people, capturing their unique personalities, stories and connections that make our community what it is. The finished book will be a lasting keepsake, showcasing local dogs.

Behind every number is a person, a pet and a story 🐾

These statistics represent vulnerable people and beloved animals who have needed support, safety, care and compassion during difficult times.

At Don’t Forget My Pet, every call, every visit and every act of support helps keep pets and families together when they need it most.

He steals my clothes. He also changed my life!

Digga will steal your clothes and make you chase him around the house just to get them back.

He'll also never let you sit alone. Feet. Legs. Whatever part of you he can reach. He needs to be touching you. Always.

And if the music's right, he loves to dance.

He's 9 years old, has Type 1 Diabetes, and is the reason Don't Forget My Pet exists.
I'm Alysha. His mum. And the founder of this charity.

I had a big career. I worked hard for it. I'm an introvert, and for a long time I was operating in environments that cost me more than they should have. When COVID came and the world went quiet, part of me genuinely exhaled.

Digga and I moved to Geelong between lockdowns. New city. Knew nobody. And this bold, ridiculous, loves-everyone dog just got on with it — walked straight up to strangers, made friends, built us a life here while I was still figuring out where the good coffee was.

We've been through a lot together, him and me. And we've always just kept going. As a team.

I knew what that bond had given me. And during COVID, looking around at so many people who were isolated and alone, I started wondering — who was there for them?

People living alone don't have a fallback. Their pet is often their person.
What I found when I went looking were limited services supporting vulnerable and isolated people — especially those facing mental health challenges — to keep their pets through hard times.

So I built one.

Don't Forget My Pet helps vulnerable and isolated people keep their pets when life gets hard. Foster care. In-home support. A pet food bank that's now delivered over 36,000 pet meals. Basic veterinary care, training and advice. And extensive support to the people who need it most.

I started it to fill a gap I couldn't believe existed.

What I didn't expect was that Digga would do what Digga always does.
Make everyone feel like they belong.

That's what this community is. And we're just getting started. 🐾
