๐ข Big Changes Are Coming to NDIS Funding
From 19 May 2025, the way your NDIS plan is funded will look a little different. Instead of getting your full plan budget upfront, funding will now be released in smaller chunks over the course of your plan - called Funding Periods.
Hereโs what you need to know:
โ
Funding Periods could be monthly, quarterly or upfront, depending on the support type.
โ
Youโll still get the same total funding, just released in instalments.
โ
Core and Capacity Building Supports still have the same flexibility - Capital Supports are still fixed.
โ
If you donโt use all your funds in one period, theyโll roll over within the same plan - but not into a new plan.
โ
You canโt โborrowโ from future periods, so itโs important to plan ahead.
These changes apply to all new and renewed plans from 19 May 2025 onwards.
Weโre introducing changes gradually from this week to help participants more easily manage their budgets.
We had feedback from participants, who have told us that receiving all their funding at the start of their plan can make budgeting hard โ increasing the risk of overspending or running out of funds.
So, what is changing? Well, from 19 May 2025, different funding periods will be slowly introduced to all new or reassessed plans.
Funding periods will now usually be set at three-months โ rather than 12-months โ to give participants flexibility and to help participants manage their budgets.
If a participantโs situation changes and they need more or different supports, they can request a change to their plan. They won't be left without the supports needed but itโs important for participants to ask for help early, before funds run out.
This change doesnโt change the total amount of funding in a participantโs plan, only when the funding becomes available.
The NDIA will have a discussion with participants about their circumstances. We will do this as part of getting their new or reassessed plan. If they don't need a new plan, there are no changes right now.
Weโll also be providing support and information during this transition.
