The perk of working from home: 20 steps down the hallway to fix my latest coffee stain. Next time you’re apologising for a little bit of baby vomit ending up on me, please know I’ve done much worse to myself.

Newborn babies should be bendy, relaxed, snoozy… but not strong. Head and neck control is something that’s built slowly over time.

If your bub is “strong” from the get go, this may be a sign of underlying tension in their skull, neck or body. Often this can be from positioning in the womb, or the big undertaking of getting into the world.

Sometimes, this is what we call high tone. Other signs of a high tone baby can we unsettledness or lots of crying, discomfort on their back or hating the car seat, restless sleep or constipation.

If you have questions about your little one, often just listening to your gut is a good place to start. If you feel like something’s off, then we’re here to help you get to the bottom of it.

So many mums come in saying, “We’ve tried everything.” And they usually have.

When the nervous system is irritated or under strain a baby or toddler may struggle to get to, or stay asleep. Not because they won’t, but because their body can’t fully relax.

Sleep requires the body to move into a parasympathetic (rest) state. If the nervous system is on high alert, that transition can feel impossible (for them AND for you).

In practice, I’ve seen a clear pattern: babies and toddlers with poor sleep often also show signs of cranial tension or nervous system irritation.

You’re not failing at bedtime. Sometimes the body just needs support.

Not to toot my own horn but I’m truly an unstoppable force and there’s nothing I can’t do.

It’s a tale as old as time: women sit in front of me and tell me that they get “a normal amount of headaches.”

“I just push through, I don’t really have time to stop.”

Between making sure everyone’s wearing underwear each day, no one’s pinching each other in the back seat and restocking the fruit supply because someone ate 7 apples in one day again, there’s no space for headaches.

They might sit at the base of your skull constantly each day, give a sharp stabbing pain around your temple or make you feel sick and put you to bed during the day to “sleep it off”.

The first step to assessing what’s causing headaches is seeing if your body is moving evenly. If it’s not, certain areas take more load than they’re designed to. Next, the nerves here can stop firing to the muscles that support your neck and posture, so you feel heavy and achey at the end of each day.

If any of this sounds like you, or a Mum that you love - I’m here to help.

If you’re in the post-partum phase of life, your glutes often go a little “offline” after months of pregnancy, feeding, lifting, and carrying. When that happens, the low back and pelvis tend to do too much of the work.

My job in the practice is to help get the nerves to your glutes firing well, and your pelvis and low back moving the way they’re designed to.

Your job at home? Make use of that nerve to muscle connection with a quick glute-bridge session (in amongst the demands of Mum-life!). This exercise helps reinforce the patterns we’re working on in practice so those changes actually stick in real life.

If you’re not sure whether your glutes are doing the work (or your back is taking over), that’s something we can absolutely check together at your next appointment.

Ever wondered - “Is that normal?”

Toe walking, one leg turned out, or a wider gait can be signs of underlying tension, or areas of brain–body development that may need a little extra support. Walking doesn’t happen in isolation; every milestone builds on the ones before it, so sometimes the clues show up from earlier developmental stages. Other times, imbalances develop gradually as little bodies grow and adapt.

Paediatric chiropractic care looks at why a pattern might be showing up and how to gently support the nervous system and movement pathways underneath it.

When we support the foundations, little ones are better set up to hit the ground running.

Does breastfeeding or computer work have you feeling like a slouchy ogre? Or maybe it’s hours spent leaning over a pram, car seat, or tiny human.

Wall angels are a simple, effective way to remind your upper back and shoulders how they’re meant to move without hours of stretching or complicated exercises.

Think of this as a gentle reset and wake-up. Slow, controlled, and pain-free is the goal.

Save this one for your next desk break or feeding session. Your shoulders will thank you.

Zest’s very first birth of 2026, and the best kind of message to wake up to.

Caring for women through pregnancy is such a privilege. Your body is genuinely brilliant at growing and birthing babies. But, pregnancy can start to feel like hard work when life doesn’t slow down around it. Busy toddlers, long commutes, even longer to-do lists… it all adds up.

Pregnancy chiropractic care is about supporting your body amidst those external demands, so it can do what it already knows how to do - calmly, efficiently, and with a little more ease.

So much joy for this beautiful family, and so much gratitude to be part of the journey.

Merry Christmas from us to you!

We are beyond grateful for the support from the local community as we got Zest off the ground this year. We can hardly believe it’s only been three months of our little business ticking along.

We can’t wait to see what 2026 brings; likely lots more giggles from both of our work rooms, Frida cuddles and endless chats with our beautiful Zest crew (you!).

I’ll be working Monday 29th - Wednesday 31st and then taking a little break. If you’re in need of an adjustment next week there’s a couple still available if you’re speedy!

It’s the week before Christmas and we’re sensing a bit of a tone shift in our clients. The busyness is ramping up, the gifts need to be wrapped and you’re feeling like you need to elbow Margaret out of the way in Aisle 4 to get the last dozen un-cracked eggs for the pavlova.

With all this hustle and bustle, our nervous systems are processing constant stimulation. The rush can leave us feeling frazzled, overwhelmed, and not quite like ourselves.

Don’t let the busyness of the season wear you down - we’ve got a sprinkling of appointments left in the lead up to Christmas. Come in and take a moment for yourself. You deserve it!
