I’ve noticed such a shift in my mindset lately… & it’s honestly changed everything.

Not long ago, I went into a run already in a bad mood, telling myself how hard it was going to be. And surprise surprise… it felt hard the entire time. My brain just kept saying “stop” the whole run.

So I decided to switch it up.

I started telling myself: you can do this. you’re strong. you’re capable. your body’s got this.

And the more I do it, the easier it’s getting to push through.

Now before I even start, I tell myself it’s going to feel good. That I’ve got this & when those intrusive thoughts creep in, I catch them and flip it, “you’re doing so well” “I’m proud of you”

Such a simple shift… but it’s made a huge difference.

What you tell yourself matters more than you think.

Believe you can & you’re halfway there 💪🏼

One of the first things I notice when someone arrives is their breathing.

Most people don’t realise how much tension they’re carrying until they lie down and start to slow their breath.

Shoulders tight, chest breathing, body stuck in go mode - Sound like you?

Then somewhere during the session something shifts & this is my favourite part!

Their breath deepens, their shoulders drop, their nervous system finally gets the signal that it’s safe to switch off.

That moment never gets old to witness. I literally see this feeling come like a wave over my clients & it’s fulfilling.

When your exhale becomes longer than your inhale, something powerful happens in your body.

Your nervous system gets the signal that it’s safe.

Longer exhales activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the part responsible for rest, recovery and calm. It tells your body you can step out of fight or flight & return to a more balanced state.

Your heart rate slows, your muscles soften & your mind becomes quieter.

This is why learning to regulate your breath matters, not just during practice, but in everyday life. Sometimes the fastest way to calm your mind… is simply to slow your exhale.

Practise for a few rounds & tell me what you think & how you feel. Take a breath in. Now let it go a little slower.

Your body is listening. 🌿

You think it’s your muscles giving up. Most of the time… it’s your nervous system.

Breath before training sets the tone.
Breath during training builds resilience.
Breath after training tells your body it’s safe to recover.

I often hear my coach in my head say “your mind will give up before your body does”. Ain’t that the truth 🤭

I have so many friends message me when they are struggling through their exercise, saying I had this thought about what Ash has said “Breathe”. So that’s why I constantly promote this stuff. It’s true power 💪🏼 As you can tell, I DO NOT love Bulgarian splits 🤮
