It is not becoming of a government or of a Minister for Health, to suggest that GPs will make 415K a year when that very same government's own ATO provides as a fact that Australian GP income averages $173,436, dropping to $152,166 for female GPs. This is an income that includes NO sick leave, NO personal leave, NO annual leave. It also costs the avergae GP 10K in registration and insurance for the right to go to work in the first place.
It is not becoming for a Minister for Health to incite the public to abuse GPs and their front-line reception staff when they don't provide all their services for "free". GPs and their staff are being attacked for not delivering on a promise, made as if the government itself can demand small, independent businesses to comply with its will.
RACGP asks for a respectful and truthful public discourse about our profession.

Mark Butler has repeated his assertions that GPs will earn $415,000 a year under bulk-billing incentives – calculations the RACGP President says are ‘misleading’.
