Blissful Bubbies was born with the knowledge and understanding that a good night sleep is essential for family harmony. Contrary to the saying “sleep like a baby”, sleep is a learned behaviour, so for a baby to sleep well, we must teach them how to do so. I am a qualified and licensed Registered Nurse with 16 years experience in caring for neonates and children. I began my career studying at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree. In 2001 I moved to Sydney to further my studies in Neonatal Intensive Care, where I studied and worked at the Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick. After completing my 12 month Post Graduate course with Level 3 qualifications I moved back to Queensland and joined the Mater Mothers and Children's Hospitals, Brisbane in Neonatal Intensive Care and Peadiatric Intensive Care Units, as well as both Medical and Surgical wards for Babies and Children. In 2004, I commenced at Allamanda Private Hospital, Gold Coast in the Children’s Ward. Here I gained my extensive knowledge in sleep and settling techniques having spent 7 years caring for unsettled babies and their families and teaching them gentle calming techniques and workable routines for ultimately happier settled babies. I am the proud Mum to two little boys – 6yrs and 8years and a 22 year old step daughter. As luck would have it (for you more than me), both my boys have had their fair share of issues, giving me very personal experience and insight in dealing with reflux, multiple food intolerances and associated sleep issues. I have, like you, been at the end of my tether, trying to work out why my baby will not sleep. My personal experience, combined with my extensive knowledge in sleep and settling techniques as well as my other professional nursing experience gives me a comprehensive insight into issues faced by new and experienced parents alike. I provide advice and guidance to parents to help to teach their children to sleep soundly. I will help with all aspects of sleep from daytime naps to quality night time sleep, through personalised sleep plans and methods that are tailored to suit your individual family. If required I can offer assistance with breast-feeding techniques and support, to help mum’s feel more confident and capable in those early feeding days. My wealth of knowledge and experience enables me to assist in determining whether there are other factors causing your baby’s sleep issues such as reflux, silent reflux, feeding issues, food intolerances etc. If necessary specialist referral can be arranged and professional help organised for Mums or Dads should Post Natal Depression occur. I also offer to those of you who are just simply in need of some much needed "ME" time. If you don't feel that you need help with a sleep routine but would love some ‘time out’ for yourself and don't have family support to allow you to have your own time (whether it be to catch up on some much needed sleep or to get out and get your nails done) then I can assist in caring for your little one in the comfort of your own home following your own established routine. 6 Tips to achieve success with your sleep training.

Safe Sleep Environment - essential for safe sleeping.
Gradual Transitions - when tackling training alone, take it step by step.
Set Nap Times - Try and follow a set routine, with age-appropriate awake windows.
Consistent Bedtime Routine - Set up a consistent bedtime routine.
Be Patient - Patience is key in teaching new skills. Try and stay calm and take it day by day.
Consult an expert - If you're worried something is not right OR you feel you need guidance and support ask your paediatrician for advice or reach out and we will be more than happy to help!!

Some tips to improving your little ones sleep.....

1 - Bedtime Routine: Having a consistent bed time routine helps your little one understand it is sleep time and when approached calmly and confidently, helps them to feel safe and secure.

2 - Self Soothing: Gently teaching your little one to self soothe independently, helps them to be able to sleep soundly, without worrying where you have gone. This helps them to build the skills to settle off to sleep on their own and link cycles, which extends naps and enables them to sleep through the night.

3- Room Temperature: Babies do best in a comfortably cool room. If the room is too cold (below 20deg) or too warm and stuffy (above 24deg) they find it very hard to sleep well. This is because they can not regulate their own body temperatures until they are over 2yrs.

4 - Comforter: Giving baby a soft baby comforter is more beneficial than a dummy/pacifier or using feeding to signal sleep for baby. A comforter can be easily found by baby independently and does not create a negative sleep aid, as does a dummy or feeding. This is because baby is unable to (usually under 9months) to find and replace the dummy themselves and they require your assistance to feed back to sleep.

5 - White Noise: White noise is a great tool to help dull/block out external sounds and is particularly helpful during the day when older siblings running around. Note: You do not have to use white noise at night, just because you use it during the day.

6 - Dark Room: Once baby is older than 6 weeks it is important to help them relax for sleep. A dark room helps indicate sleep time and allows them to relax and settle more easily. It also helps with linking cycles, to extend their naps.

7 - Sleeping bag/Swaddle: Sleeping bags/swaddles are very important to help keep bubs warm in their cool environments. If bub is not warm enough, they will not sleep well and are much more likely to roll over and tummy sleep, to try and stay warm. Your aim is for bubs chest to feel super toasty warm. Generally a 2.5tog or 3.5tog is required for a room of 21-22deg.

Bedtime can be a breeze with these simple tips to help your toddler relax and drift off to dreamland. Here's how to create a peaceful bedtime routine:

No Screen Time: Limit screen use 1-2 hours before bedtime to avoid stimulating your little one's brain and promote a sense of calm.

Story Books: Snuggle up with your toddler and read a bedtime story together. It's a magical way to unwind and bond before lights out and also helps your little one to transition from play time to bedtime.
