This August I am walking 3km’s a day to raise much needed funds for families who have lost a child.

Every day across Australia, 9 babies and young children die suddenly and unexpectedly. We’re losing them to SIDS and stillbirth, among other things. This devastating loss is indescribable.

Donate to Red Nose Day to fund crucial research and prevent little lives being lost. Your support will help save little lives and provide counselling services to grief-stricken families who are devastated by the loss of a treasured baby or child.

I’m walking in memory of my nephew Oliver!

Hi, I’m Mel – so glad you’re here!
I thought it was time to re-introduce myself for anyone new around here 💛

I’m a mama from the Gold Coast and a passionate Doula. My journey into birthwork began after my own experiences through pregnancy, birth and postpartum—and I haven’t looked back since.

I saw post that inspired me to share a few things about me 👇

Where you’ll usually find me:
Juggling mum life, supporting beautiful families, doing school drop-offs and pick-ups, driving to kids’ activities and appointments and keeping the snack and meal train rolling (basically 24/7).

Guilty pleasures:
Coke Zero, protein puddings and way too much Nutella 😅

Me-time moments:
A solo walk listening to The Great Birth Rebellion podcast, a gym session, sauna, or a quiet soak.

Our weekends usually look like:
Swimming lessons, house resets, kids’ parties, catching up with friends or family—or just recharging and prepping for a new week.

Non-negotiables:
My lip balm - IYKYK 👄

A few fun facts:
I was born in New Zealand but raised here in Australia. I have wild curly hair & was born with a different middle name (long story).

What’s next?
Enrol into courses to deepen the ways I can support families even more.

Thanks for being here—it means the world 💫

Hello Mama, welcome to Your Postpartum Village

Hi, I’m Melanie. I’m a mum of 2, living on the Gold Coast.

As a birth and postpartum doula, I understand the incredible transformations that come with motherhood. With my babies still young, my focus is exclusively on postpartum support—but my care begins long before baby arrives.

Through my own journey into motherhood, I felt the deep need for a village—a network of support for mums, babies, and families navigating the postpartum period. It’s a time of immense change, joy and challenge and having the right support can make all the difference.

That’s where I come in. I’m here to offer compassionate, hands-on care to help you feel nurtured, confident and supported as you embrace this new chapter.

While my services center on postpartum care, my support starts during your pregnancy. From preparing you emotionally and practically for life with a newborn to being a steady presence during the early weeks, I’m here to help you build the foundation for your parenting journey.

Together, we’ll:
• Develop a postpartum plan tailored to your family’s needs.
• Nourish you with wholesome, nurturing foods and drinks to support your recovery.
• Hold space for you and your family to rest, bond, and heal.
• Provide a listening ear and a non-judgmental, understanding approach to every conversation.

Motherhood is not meant to be walked alone. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, I’m here to hold space for you and your family, offering the care and reassurance you deserve.

If this sounds like the support you’re looking for, I’d love to connect and chat more about how I can help.

Let’s build your village.

Tips for Visiting New Parents:

✨ Reach out first—always call or message before stopping by.
✨ Bring a little something—a coffee or treat is always appreciated.
✨ Be mindful—leave shoes at the door and wash your hands when you arrive.
✨ Stay home if you or your kids are feeling unwell.
✨ Lend a hand—whether it’s washing dishes, tidying up, or folding laundry.
✨ Let the parents lead— baby cuddles should be offered by the parents.
✨ Offer a break—ask if Mum or Dad would like time for a shower or a moment to themselves.
✨ Give attention to older siblings—a little extra love goes a long way.
✨ Leave a meal—a home-cooked dish in the fridge or freezer is a lovely gesture.
✨ Respect their space—only share advice if asked and be mindful of how long you stay.

Make your visit thoughtful, helpful and full of love & care.

Let me know below, if I have missed any tips.

Eliminate all stress factors; events, work, household stuff – even family members! And only have people around you who truly support you, who let you be where you are and express what you need, and who know what it’s like to become a mother. People who can let you be messy – because all deep change brings a little messiness.

A friend once gave me a piece of postpartum advice and it’s always stuck with me - celebrate the small wins.

So easy and simple for me, an absolute game changer.

I could easily get caught up in the negative of how hard postpartum can be.

The shift from what I haven’t done or couldn’t achieve to but you did this and baby did that. However small or big.

Celebrating wins with my partner and changing my focus on the little things we achieved as a family, as a team!

What is your small win for today? Let’s celebrate together.

Do it! Do it for you!

Did you know that at least one in every five women and one in ten fathers/partners experience anxiety, depression, or both during pregnancy and/or following birth?

Postpartum can feel isolating for some, with families often living far away and friends busy with their own juggle. Finding the support you need can sometimes feel tough.

Joining a mother’s group in my local area was one of the best things I did for myself. Our babies were the same age, our families lived nearby and we were all experiencing those developmental leaps together. We had someone to text during late-night feeds and someone was always up for a chai and walk.

So this is your sign to:
* Join the mother’s group.
* Say yes to the play date.
* Sign up for sensory class and library rhythm time.
* Start that conversation with the mum you meet at the park and swap numbers.
* Make that call to book in a call or face to face with a professional if you need to talk to someone
* Go for that walk

Finding your people can provide you with a warm, comforting home away from home. Connection and support are so important when the days feel long.

Build your village. Find your people.

Having mum friends can be a wonderful boost for your well-being and mental health.

So say YES, put yourself out there. Do it, do it for you!
