My Journey Into Sound Healing Through the Voice
I’ll never forget the first time I truly experienced the healing power of sound.
I was visiting Krishna Village, a beautiful community nestled in nature, when I first learned to chant. At first, it felt repetitive, almost strange to keep repeating the same sounds — but something incredible happened.
The more I chanted, the easier it became. The rhythm, the vibration, the repetition — it all pulled me into a deep state of peace.
I felt centered. Calm. My mind, usually racing, became still.
It was a feeling I’ll never forget — a glimpse into how simple sound could completely transform my state of being.
Later, as I trained to become a yoga teacher, chanting became part of my daily life.
We sang ancient Sanskrit mantras, and again, I felt that familiar doorway opening: the mind becoming quiet, the heart feeling full, the body relaxed and at ease.
For me, chanting was an easier, more natural way to access the benefits of meditation — the stillness, the clarity, the deep peace within.
Chanting is not just for yogis. Buddhists chant. Many indigenous cultures chant. Across the world and throughout history, humans have used their voices to heal, connect, and commune with the divine.
Even listening to chants can be powerful — but there is something truly unique about using your own voice — feeling the vibrations moving through your body, awakening you from the inside out.
More recently, I discovered the work of Eileen McKusick and The Brothers Koren (Thorald and Isaac) through their Sing the Body Electric teachings.
Through them, I found an even simpler, more accessible way to use the voice for healing:
Not through complex Sanskrit or long chants — but through primordial sounds like "Gee," "Bee," and "Fee" — tuning directly into the nerves, fascia, blood, skin, and the energetic field that surrounds us.
Their Nervous System Reset method feels like a direct continuation of the chanting practices I fell in love with — but even more relatable, universal, and easy for anyone to try.
I believe these sounds awaken ancient parts of us, healing not just our own wounds, but reaching into patterns passed down through generations — creating deep, cellular healing that is hard to describe until you feel it yourself.
Using our own voice, we become like living tuning forks — vibrating healing frequencies through our own bodies.
It’s a coming home. A reconnection with parts of ourselves we may have buried, forgotten, or found too painful to process.
Through simple sound, we give ourselves permission to be loud, to be playful, to take up space in the world — to reclaim our sovereignty without needing anyone else’s permission.
Sound healing through the voice can unlock so much:
The confidence to speak your truth.
The healing of the throat chakra (and all chakras).
A deeper sense of safety in your own body.
A reconnection with your authentic self.
This is a healing practice I have only just begun exploring more deeply — but it already feels like home.
And I cannot wait to share this with you at The Voice of the Wild Woman event.
