More often than not, your BGL's can actually be impacted by incorrectly administering your insulin.

For example, some patients might come to me for hyperglycaemia (high sugars) and think they need to increase their dose of insulin or eat less carbohydrates.

When actually, it may be because they haven't administered the full dose of insulin by either not holding the needle in the skin for long enough, or not performing an air shot to ensure there is insulin coming out of the needle etc etc.

Don't take these small things for granted, as they can actually make a big difference to your management

Why should you drink > 8 cups of water each day?

1. Water helps to flush the glucose out of the blood which is important if yours are trending ⬆️
2. Water can help maintain mental energy and limit headaches
3. Water can help aid digestion and prevent constipation
4. Water can help replete losses that occur through urine, sweat, & bowel motions. Therefore maintaining hydration for all of your cells

If you are not good with your water intake, try make a goal this week to get 8 cups (2L) a day

November is National Diabetes Month, a time when communities across the country team up to bring attention to diabetes.

Soon I'll be posting information specific to this years' focus of pre-diabetes and how to prevent type 2 diabetes.

In the meantime, I thought I'd share a refresher on hypo management. I felt the need to post this as I have seen a few clients recently who have had diabetes for a while and are still unable to treat a hypo effectively. By effectively, I mean not having a re-bound hypo and not ending up with HYPERglycaemia.

What alot of people get wrong with hypo treatment, is that they 'overtreat' with quick acting carbs (I.e. lollies, juice, coke etc).

TIP
1. Organise a hypo kit ahead of time and keep within reach, not stored away.
2. Ensure your hypo kit has only 15g of quick acting carbs. Some ready-made options include glucose gels.
3. Hydrate!!
4. Test, test, and test again. You won't learn if what you have done worked, unless you monitor.
