“Doctor handed live baby at 8 weeks gestation…
Statement by Paul E. Rockwell, M.D.: “Eleven years ago while giving an anesthetic for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy (at 8 weeks gestation), I was handed what I believe was the smallest living human ever seen. The embryonic sac was intact and transparent. Within the sac was a tiny human male swimming extremely vigorously in the amniotic fluid, while attached to the wall by the umbilical cord. This tiny human was perfectly developed, with long, tapering fingers, feet and toes. It was almost transparent, as regards the skin, and the delicate arteries and veins were prominent to the ends of the fingers.” Dr. Rockwell continues, “The baby was extremely alive and swam about the sac approximately one time per second, with a natural swimmer’s stroke. This tiny human did not look at all like the photos and drawings and models of ’embryos’ which I had seen, nor did it look like a few embryos I have been able to observe since then, obviously because this one was alive! When the sac was opened, the tiny human immediately lost his life and took on the appearance of what is accepted as the appearance of an embryo at this stage of life (with blunt extremities etc.).” This remarkable photograph of a tiny, still living preborn baby in his non ruptured amniotic sac was taken after surgery for a tubal pregnancy at the University of Minnesota by medical photographer Robert Wolfe in 1972. https://www.bobwolfephoto.com/ This picture demonstrates the remarkable early development of a preborn baby at only six weeks after conception.

Closing the Bones

A powerful Mexican tradition used during post-partum to support Mother to accept, heal and integrate her journey through birth & the transition from Maiden to Mother.

I learned this sacred ceremony during my Doula training with Anna Watts
6 years post-partum with my second son and it was a deeply transformational experience for me to learn, give & receive 🦋

This is now one of my most favourite ways to serve women 🌹

The feedback I receive most is how being loved upon & touched tenderly (the love we wanted to receive during & after birth) is the most healing aspect.

We’ve just updated our Closing the Bones page with beautiful images shot by

It’s Homebirth Awareness Week 🤍 and this is a topic very dear to our hearts. It is our wish that more women in Australia will have access to and feel empowered to choose to birth at home. Sadly, homebirth is not funded by Medicare, while access to homebirth midwives is limited and can be costly. This breaks my heart 🥲 Even sadder is that culturally, the mainstream belief is that birth at hospital is safer, despite the research showing this is not true. If someone tells you birth at home is unsafe, they are mis-informed! It’s as simple as that…
You always have options. Your body, your pregnancy, your baby, your choice. Some resources are tagged here to get you started on the journey, if birthing at home is something you want to know more about. This is just scratching the surface! We would love to get your tags and recommendations in the comments too… 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

If continuity of care and an undisturbed, natural labour and birth are what you are hoping for, then birthing at home is certainly the place to provide that 🤍

In Infant and Pregnancy Loss awareness month we wanted to share our blog about loss and how you can support someone through it. One of the hardest things with infant and pregnancy loss is that it can come very unexpectedly and brings with it a lot of trauma. Many people don’t know how to navigate this trauma. So in this blog we hope to explain a little more, from our own experience, what loss can look and feel like and how you can support someone or yourself through it. Sending love xx Emma
