Access for the deaf when it comes to movies is absolutely terrible! We can’t just pick any day and time to go see a movie at a local cinema like everybody else, only a few locations offer open captions or closer captions so the closest one to my home is about 40 mins drive (45kms) each way. It’s the stress of extra time and cost we deaf people face each time we see a movie but with captions it’s so damn worth it because we get to enjoy the movie fully with our hearing families. So thankful.
Throw away the ridiculous ugly closed captions box crappy thingy we stick in the cup holder that doesn’t always work or falls on our lap. Open captions all the way and it should be made mandatory in all cinemas. Equal access!!! 💪💪💪

P.s Twisters was great! My 8 year old enjoyed it as much as I did. He loved that fact I could understand the movie so we could talk more about it in the end 🥰❤️

I’ve had people ask me repeatedly and I respond with “yes I heard you” then I get a funny look on their faces like “but I thought you’re deaf!?” I read their lips over and over again… Soooo yeahhh I can hear with my eyes!!!!🤪🤪

This 🙌
One of my daily battles!
Hearing people assume we deaf people with hearing aids or cochlear implants can hear like everyone else with them on…. But nope! The aids helps with a little noise, nothing more. We hear with our eyes - mostly the body language, hand gestures and facial expressions, some can lip read as well. Shaking your head or turning away can be frustrating. It’s always important to face a deaf person and be patient when trying to communicate and smile! 😃

This! 🙌
“Hearing can learn Auslan but deaf can’t learn to hear”
‘Auslan’ Sign language is for everyone! It’s not mandatory but it would help the community to connect 💕🫶 I believe for schools in Australia it should be made mandatory so no one is left out and the deaf children get to learn English to better their knowledge and writing skills. Learning Chinese is great but not everyone moves to china! Children would benefit from learning Auslan and more babies are being born deaf nowadays.

Auslan sign language is beautiful it’s like watching the hands dance but it’s how we communicate and understand each other FULLY 💕

Ok friends and family I have just set up a new page “Best of Both Worlds with Kristy” where I’ll be randomly posting stuff like my life experiences as a deaf person, hoping to raise deaf awareness and give hearing people a better understanding of the deaf life and barriers we deaf people face daily and I will also randomly teach some signed English and Auslan please bear with me as I slowly try to build my confidence back again on social media (it’s been years!!! Haha). Hope you show some support and follow my page. Any ideas and feedbacks I’ll be happy to hear them. Thank you 💕🤟🥰
