✨ Accidental Biomechanical Scout Report✨

Last night I accidentally did a live biomechanical scouting report while the Sharks played the Raiders — and I don’t even watch football. I usually find it boring, but my physio brain switched on.

Here’s what I saw:
🏉 Sharks → balanced, conditioned, muscles firing evenly. VMO + VL “teardrop quads” popping, hamstrings snapping like ropes, triceps powering hand-offs. Dense, functional hypertrophy — not just puffed-up size. Every stride = clean force transfer, fast recovery, explosive tackles.

🏉 Raiders → bigger frames, more bulk, but slower. Great for collisions, less efficient for acceleration and repeated efforts. The mass was there, but the neuromuscular “pop” wasn’t.

By the end it felt inevitable the Sharks would win. I would’ve bet money on it — all from simply reading their biomechanics.

🍪 THE SECRET RECIPE ↓
(aka the training program that builds the “Sharks look”)

1. VMO (teardrop quad)
🔑 Stabilises knees, key for deceleration.
🔥 Split squats (shin forward), Peterson step-ups, sled pushes.

2. VL (outer quad sweep)
🔑 Knee drive in sprints & tackles.
🔥 Back squats, front squats, loaded box jumps.

3. Hamstrings (the sprinting rope)
🔑 Acceleration + ACL protection.
🔥 Nordics, glute-ham raises, RDLs, resisted sprints.

4. Glutes (the power hub)
🔑 Hip drive, pelvic stability.
🔥 Hip thrusts, Bulgarians, lateral band walks, bounding.

5. Triceps (arm horsepower)
🔑 Push-offs, hand-offs, sprint arm drive.
🔥 Close-grip bench, dips, med ball throws.

6. Shoulders & scapular stabilisers
🔑 Safe tackles, overhead catches.
🔥 Landmine press, face pulls, serratus push-ups.

7. Core & trunk
🔑 Transfers power, stops energy leaks.
🔥 Pallof press, deadbugs, heavy carries, rotational throws.

⚡ Putting it all together:
• Sharks: Olympic lifts + plyo + sprint conditioning + unilateral balance + injury prevention.
• Raiders: bulkier, bodybuilding-style hypertrophy with less functional transfer.

💥
4 YEARS WORTH OF TRAUMA 🤕🏈💪
4 NEEDLES LATER 🪡🤲🏻
GONE IN 4 MINUTES💥

This footy player carried a quad lump for 4 years after a bad cork (contusion). Every time he contracted his thigh, an egg sized mass bulged between the two thigh muscles VMO and VL.

After listening to his story and non compliance to 4 x ACL Surgeries (back on the field 4 months later 🫨 hence why he’s had 4 Surgeries lol), he told me it couldnt be fixed!

Me being me…. I watched him closely and took my chances, accepting the challenge!

Some intense research, hyperfocus and a feel of his muscles; I ruled out anything serious like myositis ossificans (bone in muscle) because it still felt like muscle/scar, not bone. One session of dry needling broke it down — 90% reduction in under 10 minutes!

And just to top it off… his knee moves so differently it looks like a party trick (femur spins, tibia stays put).

Sometimes the body adapts in wild ways and sometimes it just needs the right treatment to finish healing.

WANTED

Looking for people who are interested in being my patient for a free Physio assessment of muscle strength, length, how your joints individually move with hands on therapy, palpitation, and postural assessment. Can’t say how long it will take but Steve the skeleton isn’t complying so I need to upgrade to a human 😜 all joints assessable are hip, knee, ankle, shoulder blades, collar bone, shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers.

2 weeks until exam, the more people the better. Pre requisite- will have to be comfortable with having areas exposed and no infections, autoimmune diseases, or arthritis.

Physio is about finding postural or mechanical/ neurological faults & provoking the pain response you are currently feeling and finding the source of your pain so we are able to fix it.

Please Dm me if interested.

All other injuries are welcome! 🤗

IT’S F…….reeeezing!!! Which means your body is ready to store fat for winter!

✅ 1. Craves Food
• You get hungrier — especially for carbs and fats.
• Why? Because your body needs fuel to make heat.

🧠
2️⃣ Tries to Store Fat
• Your body shifts to preserve and store energy, especially if the cold is chronic or extreme.

In simple terms:
• If you’re cold and have food → body says “EAT and BURN.”
• If you’re cold and don’t have food → body says “SLOW down, STORE fat.”

Metabolism may slow down in prolonged cold if food is scarce → conserve energy
so please be warned!!! DIETING IS NOT 🛑 A GOOD WINTER IDEA 💡

While we’re at it let’s get ontop of what our body is craving and why??? If your body is anything like mine, it’s carrying on like a starved drama queen at an all you can eat buffet 🤣🙄

🔥 Carb Cravings (especially sweets or fast sugar)
• Your brain is running low on glucose
• Blood sugar may be dipping too low
• Could be a sign of low B vitamins, stress, or adrenal fatigue
• Common when you’re tired, wired, or skipping meals
• Often comes with mood swings, brain fog, or shakiness

🧂 Salt Cravings
• You might be losing sodium due to:
• Stress hormone overuse (adrenal strain)
• Dehydration or fluid loss
• Inflammation or gut dysfunction
• Could also be linked to low aldosterone or electrolyte imbalances
• Often paired with fatigue, low BP, and salt-seeking behavior

🥩 Protein Cravings (meat, eggs, etc.)
• Your body likely needs repair materials
• May signal iron, zinc, or B12 deficiency
• Can also mean your body is breaking down muscle and needs amino acids
• Often linked to low energy, cold extremities, or emotional instability

🍋 Craving sour or citrus things
• Suggests low vitamin C or a need for immune support
• Can also mean your digestion needs help (acidic foods can boost stomach acid)
• May pop up when you’re bruising easily or fighting infection

🥬 Craving raw veg or greens
• Often means your body wants cleansing, minerals, or fiber
• May point to vitamin K, magnesium, or potassium deficiency
• Common when you’re bloated, puffy, or tired

🍳 Craving rich or savory foods (e.g. creamy, oily, umami)
• May indicate a need for fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K)
• Common during hormonal shifts or after periods of restriction
• Can also be linked to low dopamine or emotional depletion
• You might feel tired, dry-skinned, brain-foggy, or disconnected

🧈 Feeling gross after eating fats
• Could signal:
• Poor bile flow (liver/gallbladder strain)
• Pancreatic enzyme insufficiency
• Intestinal inflammation (fat triggers mast cells or immune response)
• Often shows up as nausea, bloating, loose stool, or swelling

🍫 Craving chocolate
• May indicate magnesium deficiency
• Can also relate to PMS, stress, or dopamine drop
• Common when irritable, crampy, or exhausted

😴 Craving caffeine (coffee, energy drinks)
• Often linked to low cortisol or low dopamine
• Could mean you’re compensating for:
• Sleep deprivation
• B vitamin depletion
• Emotional burnout
• Can come with brain fog, low drive, or apathy

🔁 Craving something, but nothing satisfies you
• May mean your body is missing a key micronutrient
• Could be vitamin A, zinc, or electrolytes
• Happens often during:
• Chronic inflammation
• Emotional disconnection
• Digestive issues preventing absorption
• You feel “hungry but not hungry,” or restless, flat, puffy, foggy

🥵 Feeling puffy, hot-headed, flushed, or swollen after eating
• Possible histamine response or mast cell activation
• Could relate to vitamin imbalance, food intolerances, or immune flare
• Often worsens with:
• Sodium
• Rich foods
• Inconsistent meal timing

🧠 Headaches, mood swings, and “weird” hunger
• Might be a glucose regulation issue (blood sugar ups and downs)
• Could also point to B vitamin, magnesium, or sodium/potassium imbalance
• Your body is trying to balance brain fuel + electrolyte needs

Knowing your body “inside” as well as out can help you reach your goals quicker 🥰 Kahlia PT x
