Nasal adrenaline is now part of the anaphylaxis landscape in Australia 👃

Neffy® has been approved as an option for the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis, delivering adrenaline via the nasal route rather than injection. While many in the sector are already aware of it, clarity around practical use matters. ⚕️

According to ASCIA and the Australian Product Information:

+ Neffy® is an alternative way to deliver adrenaline, not a replacement for auto-injectors
+ Emergency services must still be contacted in every case
+ If symptoms persist after 5 minutes, a second dose can be given using a new device

A few practical points that reduce common errors:

+ Do not “test spray” as each device contains one dose only
+ Insert the nozzle straight, directed towards the forehead (not angled sideways)
+ Press firmly until it activates
+ No need to sniff

The fundamentals of anaphylaxis management have not changed. Recognition, timely adrenaline and escalation of care remain central.

Jessie is a Paediatric Registered Nurse and experienced education and program leader, with a strong background in first aid training, professional development, and member engagement ⛑️📚🤝

In her role as Program Manager at the National Institute of First Aid Trainers (NIFAT), Jessie will lead the planning and delivery of professional development initiatives, conferences, and member communications. She will work closely with stakeholders across the first aid training sector to ensure members stay informed, supported, and engaged, and that NIFAT’s programs remain relevant, practical, and aligned with current clinical guidelines. 🗓️📣

Jessie brings a strategic approach to program and event management and is passionate about translating clinical updates and industry changes into clear, accessible information that supports high-quality first aid education and training practice.✅⛑️

With over a decade of paediatric nursing experience and more than eight years of experience designing and delivering education for adult learners, Jessie has delivered a wide range of evidence-based education programs, online events, and conferences for healthcare professionals and educators.
