Love a good sweaty workout.
Procrastination and fear has stopped me getting back on the bike. It’s been so long and felt so good. I’ve got a long way to go to where I want to be but the important thing is to start. Once you start it’s easier to keep going.
Just start.
It doesn’t matter how far or how fast you go, it doesn’t matter how light or heavy you lift.
Just start.
Then keep going.
The rest will slowly fall into place.

It’s Friday!
Is it crazy that I get excited about getting up at 5am to do some exercise? Nah that’s just me.
I’ve found that early morning workouts make me feel powerful. They nourish my soul and give me strength to get through anything. And as I spend an average of 9 hours a day behind a computer these early workouts are vital to my mental and physical wellness.
Today I followed a kettlebell workout I found on Pinterest. Normally I just create my own, so this was something different to do.

Do you listen to audiobooks or podcasts?
I love reading however with a demanding full-time career, two kids and a household to run amongst trying to stay fit and make time for side hustles, finding time to read is not always easy, so I’ve resorted to audiobooks for some non-fiction reading (or listening).
My current fave is Finding Ultra by Rich Roll. So good, so inspiring and so makes me want to sign up for a triathlon again.

Excuses about time. We’re all guilty of them at one point or another. That’s okay.
Do you have 20 minutes a day, 20 minutes three times per week?
We can all find twenty minutes.
I wasted twenty minutes this morning scrolling social media and looked for excuses to take a day off when I didn’t really need it. Fortunately discipline won this morning. 💪

How often do you increase your resistance?
I find that if I can comfortably do 2 sets of 15-20reps, then it’s time to move up a few kilograms to continue challenging my muscles and growing stronger.
Today I progressed my kettlebell swing from 12kg to 16kg. Feeling good, feeling strong 💪
Progress not perfection.

Sustainable health and fitness needs to be fun. I used to be all about structured workouts otherwise I didn’t count them. Now whenever I’m out and about with the kids I look for opportunities to get in a mini workout. It might be as simple as a few pull ups on the monkey bars, a few crunches or push ups, throwing the footy around on the beach or jumping over waves. It’s all fun and it all counts.

Ever feel as if you’re fighting a losing battle with your goals? Me too. Often. That’s life and fear getting in the way. When life seems tough and you’re struggling to reach your goals, know that it’s going to get better. All you have to do is get through it and you’ll come out stronger in the end. We can achieve extraordinary things if we show up every day and never give up. Showing up and giving it a go is always better than not going after what what you want. Never give up on you.

Sunday morning breakfast. Home made and delicious. I love food. I’m glad I love working out too. It’s a balancing act. But I will never deprive myself which is probably why the six pack doesn’t want to appear. But that’s okay because health and fitness is about balance, enjoying life and being kind to yourself. That includes satisfying your tastebuds.

Step out of your comfort zone and you will be forced to grow. Sign for a triathlon, start that weight training program, use a heavier kettlebell, try that new boxing class, hike that mountain. Find a way to challenge yourself every day. It doesn’t have to be physical, we need mental challenges to. We need to push ourselves to grow.

I did not feel like working out today (a bit too much wine and laughter with friends last night) but I knew that I’d feel better if I at least did a few sets of kettlebell swings and deadlifts. Yep, you bet. Fifteen minutes and instead of being tired I was rejuvenated and energetic.
Sometimes feeling tired is the best excuse to workout rather than to miss a workout.

It’s important to have balance in your life. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done. With family, work commitments, chores, friendships and everything in between, feeling balanced can become a challenge. I know I struggle all the time but it’s doable, not always 100% of the time but most of the time. Forget perfection, aim for good enough, and find the balance that works for you, your family, your life.
