The Tale of the Twisted Message.
In a small family home, three siblings sat around the kitchen table with their mother. The conversation began with good intentions a heart-to-heart about a family matter.
Each person listened, but each filtered the words through their own lens, shaped by feelings, past experiences, and assumptions.
Later that evening, instead of returning to the source for clarity, the siblings began to speak among themselves. Each repeated what they thought had been said, sprinkling in their own interpretations.
Slowly, like a game of “Chinese whispers,” the original meaning was stretched, bent, and reshaped into something almost unrecognizable.
By the next day, the message had become a story filled with twists that weren’t true. Tension brewed where none had been intended.
Finally, their mother called them back to the table. She smiled and said:“Words are like seeds. When planted in the soil of assumption, they grow into weeds of confusion. But when planted in the soil of clarity, they grow into trust.”She set a new rule for the family:
• If someone had a question, they must go directly to the person who spoke.
• If someone felt uncertain about what they heard, they must ask for clarification, not create conclusions.
• And most importantly, conversations would remain in their original circle unless all agreed to share.
From then on, boundaries became their compass. Conversations stayed clear. Respect was shown by not reshaping each other’s words. Trust began to bloom again because everyone learned that true communication is not about speaking the loudest but about listening the clearest.
