PTSD
According to estimates, at least two million veterans suffer from PTSD -- and only one in five of them has been diagnosed. Sadly, children and other noncombatants suffer from PTSD as well.
What is the definition of PTSD?
Post-traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder that can arise when someone has gone through extreme emotional trauma that involves the threat of injury or death.
While PTSD is most often found among those who have served in the military, it can also affect those who have never been exposed to a war zone. Survivors of violent crime, natural disasters and other crises are all vulnerable to PTSD.
What are the Symptoms of PTSD?
In the face of danger, it is normal for humans to experience a “fight or flight” response. But with PTSD this response is hyperactive, leaving the person in a state of anxiety or fear even after danger has passed.
Besides constant fear and anxiety, other symptoms of PTSD include:
* overreactivity
* anger and hatred
* fatigue and difficulty sleeping
* flashbacks or bad dreams
* avoidance of certain people, places, or subjects
* restless legs
* emotional numbness
* feeling tense, edgy, or continually on guard
How is PTSD Usually Treated?
Treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder usually includes psychological and medical intervention. This typically involves various forms of counseling and the use of medication.
Can Essential Oils Help PTSD?
Fortunately, essential oils can do much to relieve those suffering from PTSD.
According to Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils, he has been having great success giving soldiers their lives back with essential oils.
The essential oil singles and blends Dr. Young has been using for this are:
Valor
Inner Child
Joy
Harmony
Lavender
Peace & Calming
Forgiveness
and Hope
There are other oils that have been used as well, including frankincense, Trauma Life, Release, RutaVala, and Tranquil.
The reason essential oils are so effective is because of their ability to pe*****te the limbic portion of the brain, which is the area that deals with memories and emotions.
From Dr. Young's experience, the most exciting result of his use of essential oils with soldiers is the dramatic way they are bringing hope to those suffering from PTSD... hope that they can experience a future that is free from the fear and anxiety of their past trauma.
