DID YOU KNOW?! 👶

Babies are born with a cartilaginous kneecap, which is different to an adults’ kneecap.

A babies' kneecap doesn't show up on an x-ray as it won’t begin to ossify until about 2 years old - they won’t be completely developed until about 10-12 years old!🦵

We generally use 1 of 2 kinds of tape in clinic - rigid tape or kinesio-tape (k-tape).

One of the main differences between rigid and k-tape is that rigid tape aims to restrict or limit movement to provide some form of protection, whereas K-tape is stretchy and will allow you to move as you need whilst being supported.

K-tape can be a great tool to help our body’s healing process and can provide a number of benefits depending on the way the tape is applied. These can include -

👉Improved blood flow and reduced inflammation
👉Pain management
👉Facilitation of muscles

What would you choose? Depends on the injury right?

Historically, ICE 🧊 has been used for acute injuries such as ankle sprains, jarred fingers and lower back pain.

Over recent decades, there has been a shift away from the use of ice with a new protocol acronym PEACE & LOVE coined for acute injury management -
• Protection
• Elevation
• Avoid Anti-inflammatories
• Compression
• Education & Load
• Optimism
• Vascularisation
• Exercise

HEAT🔥on the other hand, can be a great way to relax muscle spasm and tightness as well as promoting blood circulation and healing.

However, heat isn't recommended for open wounds (as with ice), swelling, or for those with circulation issues.

If you're unsure whether to use ice or heat, reach out for a chat, we're more than happy to help😊

When it comes to our health, the best practice is proactive prevention rather than reactive management.

In other words, investing in your health now, rather than dealing with the consequences later.
