☀️ Stay Sun Safe This Summer in the Queensland Heat! ☀️
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, often referred to as our national cancer. Around two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime.
In Queensland, UV levels regularly reach 3 or above every day of the year, and skin damage — including sunburn — can occur quickly, increasing the risk of skin cancer later in life. In fact, up to 95% of melanomas are caused by UV overexposure.
📱 Check the UV daily with the FREE SunSmart Global UV App
Stay informed about UV levels wherever you are:

That’s why it’s so important to make the five SunSmart habits part of your daily routine when UV is 3 or above:
🌞 Slip on sun-protective clothing
Choose clothing that covers as much skin as possible, such as collared shirts, elbow-length sleeves, longer shorts or pants, dresses, and rash vests or t-shirts for swimming.
🧴 Slop on sunscreen
Use SPF 50 or 50+, broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen. Apply 20 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours, or after swimming, sweating or towel drying.
👒 Slap on a hat
Wear a broad-brimmed, bucket or legionnaire-style hat to protect the face, neck and ears.
🌳 Seek shade
Use available shade whenever possible, especially during peak UV times. Plan outdoor activities with shade in mind.
🕶️ Slide on sunglasses
Choose close-fitting, wrap-around sunglasses that meet Australian Standard AS1067 (Category 2, 3 or 4) to protect your eyes.
