Tubu village is located in the Nara area of the Kairuku-Hiri electorate, Central Province, Papua New Guinea and is part of five main villages which speak the Nara dialect. The Tubu villagers are predominantly hunters, subsistence gardeners and gatherers who have lived like this for centuries. Although the Capital City of Papua New Guinea is less than 100km away, the village is under developed and basic services such as clean water, sanitation and electricity is non-existent. The school was initiated by family and assisted by Cheshire disAbility Services PNG, along with the family’s network of friends. They all had a common view of establishing a school which the village was lacking since its closure in the late 1980’s. The children then up until now were abandoned by the Government and deprived of their educational rights. The women of the village were a main force that pushed for more awareness and the establishment of the school. They saw that their children were being left behind in every facet in life. Planning and construction commenced in the 2013 and Tubu Elementary & Primary School was officially opened on 7th November 2015. Tubu Elementary & Primary School currently has one teacher, Anna Lisa and as of November 2015, a total of 76 students. The school continues to grow with the next generation moving in this year and the next. A large percentage of students are from the neighbouring villages of Kaiau, Vanuamai and Diumana. Tubu Elementary Primary School are in need of books. You will be helping a community in a country where the literacy rate is low Help us help them by donating a book today
