We are grateful to ATCC for offering the chance to inform the public about the essential services we provide for those dealing with mental health distress and suicidal thoughts. A special thank you to Andrew Charlton for his presence at the event and for continuous support of our community.

The Tamil Safe Space has launched! We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have supported the mission to create a safe space which will support mental health and su***de prevention within the Tamil community.

The launch had a great turnout from a broad range of attendees and the various speeches highlighted the benefits of Community-led safe spaces in providing support during times of crisis. We appreciate the invaluable contributions of Roses in the Ocean for their leadership in Community-led Safe Spaces across the country, as well as their support and guidance for the Tamil Safe Space. Our thanks also go to Anglicare for their initiation and collaboration on this project.

We are deeply appreciative to all who attended the launch; including community, business and organizational executives & leaders, service providers, NGOs, and various community stakeholders. Your willingness to allocate time from your demanding schedules over the weekend demonstrates your dedication and passion to improving mental health in the community. We would also like to acknowledge SBS Tamil radio for their coverage and segment on the Safe Space.

To the Government leaders who were in attendance —The Honorable Dr. Andrew Charlton MP (Federal Member for Parramatta), The Honorable Dr. Hugh McDermott MP (State Member for Prospect), and Mayor Lisa Lake (Mayor of Cumberland Council)— thank you for your encouragement, support and heartfelt speeches which appreciated the value and importance of mental health initiatives in the community. Our appreciation extends to Cumberland Council for their partnership in the operation of the Safe Space.

The Safe Space looks forward to welcoming those in need. Let us work together to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and foster better mental health within our community. Here’s to an uplifting journey for all!
