💙 World Diabetes Day 💙

Diabetes continues to impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at much higher rates than other Australians — but it's our communities that are leading the change.

Across NSW, AH&MRC Member Services are working hard to prevent, detect, and manage diabetes through community-led, culturally safe care.

💪🏽 National Diabetes Services Scheme has put together a jam packed digital booklet with everything you need to know about diabetes. Check it out here:https://www.ndss.com.au/wp-content/uploads/booklet-diabetes-yarning.pdf

Today our team & two of our youth group members attended the Wellways Regional Forum in Wagga to do a presentation and panel discussion about our Uluṟu trip 💙

We are very proud of Marcus & Lijanah for representing our youth service and our community, they spoke very well & even cracked some jokes 🤭

Thanks again to Wellways for contributing towards our Uluṟu trip 🥰

✨Lindsay✨

Lindsay is our newest Smoke Free Champion! This is her story.

“I smoked ci******es for 27 years but because I wanted to be around longer for my family + I also wanted to set a good example for my grandkids, I quit smokes!

I quit, using tablets and Nicorette spray. Staying home for two weeks and didn't go to the shops or visit family/friends. That way I wasn't tempted!

Smoking has affected my health causing my shortness of breath and caused negative impacts in my life. Some impacts being financial strain and relationship problems with non-smokers in my family.

Some positive changes that come with quitting smoking for me would be that I have saved money and the relationships with my family.

It's not easy but just keep trying!"

Thank you, Lindsay, for sharing your story with us and being a role model for our younger generation and the wider community! 🚭💪🏾

If you are thinking of quitting, call the Free, Fresh & Fit team to enquire about our upcoming programs or referrals to one-on-one support.

"We all know the threat, don't live with the regret."
