Good news for families - children and teens aged 2–17 years are now eligible for the FREE nasal spray flu vaccine.

It’s quick, needle-free and a great option for kids who dislike injections. Don’t put it off this flu season - influenza can be serious, especially for children.

Expanding eligibility aims to boost statewide vaccination rates and make it easier for families - especially those with children who dislike needles.

The nasal spray flu vaccine is gentle, painless and available for free for a limited time at GPs, Aboriginal Medical Services and pharmacies.

Influenza (flu) is serious but isn’t as scary if you’re vaccinated. A flu vaccine offers you and your child the best protection from serious illness.

⚠️ Diphtheria Alert ⚠️

Australia is currently experiencing its largest diphtheria outbreak in decades, highlighting the importance of ensuring vaccinations are up to date.

Vaccination is the best protection against diphtheria and is routinely included in the National Immunisation Program.

💉Who should consider vaccination or boosters?

✔️ Children - vaccinations are routinely given at 6 weeks, 4 months, 6 months, 18 months, 4 years, with a school booster in Year 7.

✔️ Adults - booster vaccinations may be recommended for:
• Adults over 50 if it has been more than 10 years since their last dose
• Travellers to high-risk areas
• People working in high-risk occupations

🦴🚐 The Bone Bus has officially arrived at Griffith Medical Centre!

The Bone Bus team is ready for a busy week helping patients take an important step towards better bone health with onsite DEXA bone density scans.

With May being Osteoporosis Month, now is the perfect time to prioritise your bone health. Early detection can make a big difference in preventing fractures and osteoporosis complications later in life.

The Bone Bus will be onsite for the next week, and while appointments have filled quickly, there are still a few spots remaining next week.

Patients aged 70 years and over, or younger patients with eligible medical conditions, may be eligible for a Medicare rebate with a GP referral.

Speak with your GP or contact the practice to arrange your referral and appointment.

💉 FREE RSV VACCINATIONS NOW AVAILABLE 💉

Griffith Medical Centre is pleased to offer the FREE RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccine for eligible patients under the National Immunisation Program.

RSV is a common viral infection that can cause serious illness, particularly in:
• Older adults
• Infants
• Pregnant women (to help protect newborn babies)

💉 Vaccination is the best way to reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalisation.

Who is eligible?
✔️ Pregnant women
✔️ Adults aged 75 years and over
✔️ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60 years and over

Why get vaccinated?
• Helps protect against severe RSV infection
• Reduces the risk of complications and hospital admission
• Provides protection for vulnerable newborns through maternal vaccination

🦴 MAY IS OSTEOPOROSIS AWARENESS & PREVENTION MONTH 🦴

We are excited to welcome the Bone Bus to Griffith Medical Centre from 20th May, providing onsite bone mineral density (DEXA) testing for our patients.

A Medicare rebate is available for:
✔️ Patients aged 70 years and over
✔️ Patients under 70 with certain medical conditions or risk factors

Speak to your GP to arrange a referral.

We have already had an overwhelming response, with the first 4 days of appointments now completely booked out! There are still limited spots available during the remainder of the visit, so we encourage patients to book early to avoid missing out.

Early detection of osteoporosis is important in helping prevent fractures and maintain bone health as we age.

We are aware of the thick smoke currently affecting our town, likely due to hazard reduction (burn-offs).

We strongly recommend that all patients, particularly those with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions, take extra precautions today:

• Stay indoors where possible
• Keep windows and doors closed
• Avoid outdoor exercise
• Use air conditioning on recirculate if available
• Ensure you have your reliever medication on hand (e.g. Ventolin)

If you experience worsening shortness of breath, wheezing, or chest tightness, please seek medical advice promptly.
