🎓 What does music therapy look like in Australian schools?
In the latest edition of the Australian Journal of Music Therapy, Katrina Skewes McFerran (University of Melbourne) and Megan Steele (Creative School Support) share findings from a national survey exploring how registered music therapists are working in educational settings.
Registered music therapists described a broad and flexible range of practices across special education, early childhood and mainstream primary schools. Many said their work supported students at multiple tiers - individual, group and whole-school - responding to needs as varied as emotional regulation, communication, and social connection.
It's a valuable snapshot of the contribution registered music therapists are making to student wellbeing - and why it's important to support them to thrive in educational settings.
