When you’re anxious, doing less cardio and opting for Qigong instead can be beneficial because:

1. Nervous System Regulation – Intense cardio activates the sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight), which can heighten anxiety. Qigong, on the other hand, engages the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest), promoting relaxation.

2. Breath Control – Cardio often involves rapid, shallow breathing, which can exacerbate anxiety symptoms. Qigong focuses on slow, deep breaths that calm the mind and body.

3. Energy Balancing – In Traditional Chinese Medicine, excessive movement (like cardio) can overstimulate Fire energy, which may lead to restlessness. Qigong helps balance Qi, grounding excess energy and stabilizing emotions.

4. Mind-Body Connection – Anxiety often disconnects you from your body. Qigong’s slow, intentional movements encourage mindfulness, bringing awareness to the present moment and fostering emotional stability.

5. Less Cortisol Release – High-intensity exercise can increase cortisol, the stress hormone. Qigong gently reduces cortisol while improving circulation and Qi flow.

If you love cardio, you don’t have to eliminate it, but reducing it in times of heightened anxiety and incorporating Qigong can provide a more soothing and stabilizing effect.

Hello beautiful people! Guess what?! I’m back teaching in person, but this time, a vastly different form of exercise than previously. If you’re interested, check us out. We have evening classes, day classes and early morning classes. The best part is you don’t have to put on multiple sports bras either 🙊🤣

We have been conditioned to view exercise as anything that raises the heart rate and gets you sweating, and make sure your muscles are sore afterwards to prove you worked out hard 💪🏻 But with every Yang, there must be Yin. Exercise doesn’t always need to be about heavy weights, burpees, or how many steps you do.

Why Qigong?

After years of high-intensity workouts, I found a movement form that doesn’t leave me exhausted afterwards. And whilst I still love a good dance session to 80s music, I am loving that I can move my body in a way that heals it rather than just stresses it out more.
