At HEEA Therapy Services, we’re always looking for ways to build our knowledge so we can provide the best possible support.
Recently, some of our Occupational Therapists attended specialised wheelchair training, strengthening their skills in assessment, prescription, and supporting safe, functional mobility. Here’s Gill with fellow OTs in Melbourne.
Ongoing professional development helps us stay aligned with best practice and deliver thoughtful, person-centred support. We’re proud of our team’s commitment to learning and growing 💜

Friday Focus 💜✨
This week’s tip: Pause and wait after asking a question.
Why it helps: Giving processing time supports confidence and clearer communication.
Try this: Count silently to 5 before repeating or rephrasing.
A small pause can make a big difference.

Setting up an obstacle course at home is a fun and easy way to support skill development using everyday items.
Try weaving through toys, climbing over or crawling under objects, or jumping onto pillows and cushions 🧩
These activities can support:
• OT goals: motor planning, balance, coordination, core strength, sequencing, body awareness
• Speech goals: following instructions, spatial language, expressive language, problem-solving, and social communication
Simple, playful activities can support big learning outcomes 💜🌿

Friday Focus 💜✨
This week’s tip: Add movement before seated tasks.
Why it helps: Movement supports regulation, focus, and attention - helping the body and brain feel ready to engage.
Try this: Try 10 star jumps, wall push-ups, or a short walk before starting homework. Small movement, big impact.

How Do Picture Cards Support AAC?
Using picture cards alongside an AAC device (such as an iPad with Proloquo2Go) can support communication in therapy sessions.
This multimodal approach helps build comprehension, expressive language, and AAC navigation skills - making communication more accessible and engaging.
At HEEA, we support communication in ways that work best for each person 💜

AAC & Alternative Communication 🧩💜
Speech Pathologists support people to communicate in different ways - including using AAC such as communication devices, visuals, and other tools.
There’s no one “right” way to communicate - what matters is having a voice and being understood.

Friday Focus 💜✨
