Breast cancer recovery doesn’t end when the incision closes.

For many women, scars, radiation fibrosis, tightness, pulling, numbness, and restricted movement can continue long after treatment - and this is where myotherapy and gentle hands-on treatment may help.

Research has shown that manual therapy, scar therapy, stretching, and targeted rehabilitation after breast cancer surgery may help improve:
• Shoulder and chest mobility
• Pain and tightness
• Scar mobility
• Posture and movement
• Function and quality of life

Treatment may include:
• Gentle scar release
• Soft tissue therapy
• Rib and chest wall mobility work
• Breathing exercises
• Movement and stretching support
• Nervous system down-regulation

Because recovery is not just about surviving cancer.
It’s about helping you feel comfortable in your body again.

Sometimes healing starts with creating movement in the places the body learned to protect.

Vag breathing - sounds a bit gawdy? Stay with me...

Pregnancy asks a lot of your body, so learning how to breathe well before birth can make a real difference.

Diaphragmatic breathing is like “pre-hab” for labour. It helps your diaphragm, ribs, core, and pelvic floor learn to work together before baby arrives.

Or as I lovingly call it… “vag breathing.”
Yes, it sounds ridiculous. But learning to gently breathe down into your pelvic floor instead of gripping and tensing everything can be incredibly helpful during pregnancy and birth.

Research shows breathing exercises during pregnancy may help reduce stress, improve relaxation, support pain management, and promote overall wellbeing during labour and postpartum.

How to practice:
• Breathe in slowly through your nose
• Let your ribs and belly gently expand.
• Imagine the breath softening down into your pelvic floor. Send the breath down to your va**na and imagine a flower blooming. (Corny? Yeah, but it works.)
• Relax your jaw, tummy and glutes
• Slowly breathe out

Simple breathing practice during pregnancy may help:
• Reduce tension
• Improve rib movement as baby grows
• Support pelvic floor function
• Calm the nervous system
• Create a sense of connection and control during labour

Sometimes preparing for birth starts with something as simple as learning how to breathe - and yes, occasionally doing a little vag breathing.

Pumped to launch my updated website to include new women-centric treatments.

Hervey Bay Myotherapy is proud to offer Breast Cancer scar release + rehabilitation, as well as Hysterectomy scar release, on top of existing pregnancy and postpartum specialised treatments (and some areas in between).

I'm excited to drive the clinic towards being women's-health focused. Now having completed more education to back the soft tissue work, a more holistic treatment is offered to encompass the complexities and nuances of women's bodies.

What does this mean for existing clients? If you're a woman - a more holistic lens into how and why your pain presents. If you're a bloke - nothing changes, and you're absolutely still welcome in clinic.

The furthering of education will never stop. Later in the year I'll be learning how to encompass endometriosis and adenomyosis into treatment, providing pain relief and education, as well as fertility massage, complementing my already existing perinatal treatments and beyond.

I'm very excited for things to come. If you have any questions, please reach out.

After breast cancer surgery or radiation, it’s common for the chest, ribs, and scars to feel tight, protective, or “stuck.”

Diaphragmatic breathing is a gentle way to bring movement back into the area.

How to do it:

• Sit or lie comfortably
• Place your hands on your ribs or belly
• Slowly breathe in through your nose
• Let your ribs and belly gently expand
• Slowly breathe out
• Repeat for 1–3 minutes

The goal is soft movement, not deep forceful breathing.

This can help:
• Reduce tension around scars
• Improve rib and chest movement
• Calm the nervous system
• Help reconnect with your body after treatment

Sometimes healing starts with something as simple as breathing again.

Your Belly Birth scar will often heal more gently when you stop ignoring it.

When you give it the time of day.
When you touch it without fear.
When you accept that this body carried you through something huge.

Gentle self massage is not about forcing your body to change. It’s about reconnecting with it. Creating movement, softness, awareness, and trust again.

Your scar is part of your story.
The more kindness you meet it with, the easier healing can feel.

All C-Section Scar Release appointments include take-home self care tools to help you heal faster, accept your body and move through life with confidence.

Hervey Bay Myotherapy is now offering care to breast cancer survivors.

Breast cancer changes so much more than just the body.
Surgery, radiation, reconstruction, drains, tightness, numbness, pulling, tenderness… it can leave people feeling disconnected from themselves for a long time afterwards.

I’m really honoured to now offer post-operative scar release treatment for women recovering from breast cancer surgery.

This work is never about “fixing” you. Your body has already done something incredibly hard. This is about helping you feel more comfortable, supported, and at home in your body again.

Scar release treatment may help with:

• Tightness and restriction through the chest, ribs, shoulder and arm
• Pulling or tethering around scars
• Cording and related movement restriction
• Radiation fibrosis and tissue tightness following treatment
• Reduced mobility and movement
• Protective guarding patterns and muscle tension
• Discomfort with stretching, reaching or sleeping
• Improving tissue mobility and body awareness
• Supporting confidence and reconnection with your body after treatment

Every body and every recovery is different. Treatments are gentle, trauma aware, evidence informed and tailored to where you are at physically and emotionally.

You deserve care that looks at more than just the scar itself.
You deserve practitioners who listen.
You deserve to ask questions, advocate for yourself and feel supported through every stage of recovery.

If you’ve been told “this is just how it is now” but your body still feels tight, uncomfortable or restricted, please know there may be supportive options available to you.

My treatment room is a judgement free space for the messy, emotional, strong, exhausted, resilient parts of recovery. I’m here to walk alongside you through it.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat about whether this treatment is right for you 🤍

Nobody talks enough about how absolutely feral the newborn stage is.

One minute you’re staring lovingly at your tiny perfect baby. The next you’ve been holding the same shoulder tension since Tuesday, surviving on iced coffee and rage, and your lower back sounds like a glow stick every time you stand up.

Your body has been through it.
Pregnancy. Birth. Feeding. Carrying a tiny dictator who only sleeps when physically attached to you.

This is your reminder that you are also allowed to exist as a human being and not just a milk bar with anxiety.

A myotherapy session can help with:
• neck and shoulder tension from feeding and carrying
• lower back and hip pain
• headaches and jaw clenching
• postural strain from living in a permanent “mum hunch”
• actually relaxing for the first time in weeks

You don’t have to earn rest by completely falling apart first.

Book the appointment. Your nervous system is begging.

Just a little clinic update 💛

Moving forward, specialised 90 minute appointments such as C-section Scar Release sessions will now require a $50 deposit at the time of booking.

These appointments involve a longer treatment time, additional preparation, and often leave limited opportunity to fill the space if cancelled last minute. As much as I try to accommodate everyone, protecting my time as a small business is really important too.

The deposit simply helps ensure appointments are respected and allows me to continue offering these more in-depth treatments to the people who genuinely need them.

As always, deposits will come off the total cost of your appointment.

Thank you all for understanding and continuing to support my clinic. I truly appreciate every one of you 🤍
