We’re introducing changes gradually from this week to help participants more easily manage their budgets.

We had feedback from participants, who have told us that receiving all their funding at the start of their plan can make budgeting hard – increasing the risk of overspending or running out of funds.

So, what is changing? Well, from 19 May 2025, different funding periods will be slowly introduced to all new or reassessed plans.

Funding periods will now usually be set at three-months – rather than 12-months – to give participants flexibility and to help participants manage their budgets.

If a participant’s situation changes and they need more or different supports, they can request a change to their plan. They won't be left without the supports needed but it’s important for participants to ask for help early, before funds run out.

This change doesn’t change the total amount of funding in a participant’s plan, only when the funding becomes available.

The NDIA will have a discussion with participants about their circumstances. We will do this as part of getting their new or reassessed plan. If they don't need a new plan, there are no changes right now.

We’ll also be providing support and information during this transition.

Character Creation Week at Minds At Play!

Before any great adventure begins, character creation sets the stage! It’s more than just picking stats and gear—it’s where you get to know your fellow adventurers, discover each other’s strengths, and set the tone for the journey ahead. There’s lots of communication, lots of laughs, and just a little bit of chaos!

And let’s be honest… most of our groups seem to fit into at least one of these categories:

🔥 The Party Dynamic – “Let’s build a balanced team!” they say. Then we end up with three adventurers trying to tame the dragon and one trying to befriend the villain.

😂 The Name Game – "Spent 5 minutes picking a class, 10 minutes choosing stats, and way too long deciding if ‘Sir Snickersnack’ is a heroic name."

🎲 The Dice Betrayal – "Roll for stats," they said. "It’ll be fun," they said. Now my mighty warrior has the strength of a sleepy kitten."

📜 The Overachiever – Some players make a simple character sheet. Others write a backstory so detailed it needs a sequel.

Character creation is the first step into an epic adventure—filled with teamwork, strategy, and plenty of fun! What kind of adventurer are YOU?

School Holiday Program 🤩⭐️

This program is fantastic for social and communications skills, independence and confidence.

This program is very relationship-focused, when the participants leave camp they feel like they have a place where they are supported, cared for and celebrated for the amazing things they have achieved.

We have some amazing activities planned all with the goal of developing social and communication skills whilst providing a supported, sensory friendly environment.
All the activities are tailored to each individual's needs and abilities, we have arts & crafts, music, jewelry making, fire station visit, games, talent show, we even have a discovery ranger from Tasmania Parks and Wildlife coming.

I have seen some amazing results with this program, We look forward to welcoming our new School Holiday Program participants soon and seeing them grow.

We are more than happy to meet with families prior to camp so we can talk more about what we provide throughout camp and answer any questions they may have.
