Earlier this month our facility Albany Day Hospital proudly performed its first-ever Arteriovenous (AV) Fistula surgery a landmark achievement not only for our hospital, but for the wider Albany community.

Thanks to the expertise of Dr Mahmoud Al-Najjar (Vascular Surgeon), Dr Phil Marmion (Anaesthetist), and our incredible peri-operative team, local patients can now access this important dialysis surgery right here in Albany, without needing to travel hundreds of kilometres.

This procedure gives patients a safe, long-term lifeline for dialysis, with care from skilled nurses and a short stay post-surgery.

We’re proud to continue expanding our services and capabilities to support the Albany community with more specialist care in the future. 💙

A powerful story was shared this week about the Women’s Health Great Southern clinic and the difference timely, local care can make for women in regional WA. At Albany Day Hospital, we’re proud to play a vital role in that journey, supporting women's health in our region.

As the Great Southern community continues to grow and pressure on public services increases, access to safe, high-quality healthcare close to home has never been more important. At Albany Day Hospital, we are proud to provide the surgical care that underpins many of these patient journeys, helping women avoid long waits, unnecessary travel, and the stress of navigating care far from family and support networks.

Every day, our clinicians, nurses and theatre teams deliver procedures that change outcomes, restore quality of life and provide peace of mind. Their work may not always make headlines, but its impact is felt deeply by the women, families and the community we are here to support.

We’re proud to stand alongside local specialists and community services who share our commitment to keeping care local, accessible and compassionate for the Great Southern.

Because when care stays close to home, communities stay stronger.

Nexus Hospitals recently completed a national preferred distribution tender for medical consumables and pharmaceuticals - a significant step forward in procurement for our organisation.

Following a highly competitive process EBOS Healthcare, Symbion and HPS were selected and collaborated to deliver a bespoke solution tailored to Nexus’ national network of day and short-stay hospitals.

To celebrate the milestone, we hosted a two-day national procurement conference in Melbourne, bringing together purchasing and procurement representatives from our 22 hospitals, alongside August Consulting, who supported the tender process. We were also delighted to welcome CEO Greg Hall and CFO Cameron Fuller, who connected with teams and toured EBOS Healthcare’s state-of-the-art distribution centres.

As Andrew Woods, Business Manager EBOS Healthcare highlighted “EBOS Healthcare, Symbion and HPS worked together to deliver an outcome for the hospital group.” Our CEO Greg Hall stated that this is "the most significant breakthrough in Nexus' procurement journey to date."

Benefits to Nexus Hospitals from this partnership include:
🌱 Increased visibility and predictability of our ordering patterns, enabling EBOS to better support us with improved forecasting and fewer backorders
🌱 Consolidating supply will assist us in reducing the complexity around our purchasing and strengthens our relationships with our preferred suppliers
🌱 Secure our supply chain for critical items, and increase support when there are global shortages of certain items

☀️ National Skin Cancer Action Week is a timely reminder for all Australians to protect their skin and prioritise regular skin checks.

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world — yet most cases can be prevented by following the five forms of sun protection:
🧴 Slip on sun-protective clothing
🕶️ Slop on SPF30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen
👒 Slap on a wide-brimmed hat
🌳 Seek shade
🌤️ Slide on sunglasses

The health and well-being of our people and patients is always our highest priority. Across our national hospital network, we continue to provide specialised skin surgery services — including dermatology and Mohs surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery and oculoplastic surgery — to deliver the best clinical and cosmetic outcomes for our patients.

Meet our national network of specialists who offer skin surgery services here 👇
https://www.nexushospitals.com.au/specialists/

As summer approaches, it’s a great time to check in on your sun safety habits, book a skin check and encourage others to do the same.

Each November, people around the world 🌎 unite to raise awareness and funds for men’s health through Movember - focusing on mental health and su***de prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

Our hospital is proud to support this important cause. Movember isn’t just about growing a moustache it’s about starting conversations that can save lives and reminding one another that it’s okay to talk about health, both physical and mental.

Across our national hospital network, team members are getting involved by growing a mo, hosting events, and spreading awareness. Whether it’s a freshly sprouted moustache, a walk with colleagues, or a chat over coffee ☕ about mental wellbeing, every action makes a difference.

Here’s how you can join in:
〰️ Grow: Sport your mo proudly this Movember.
〰️ Move: Run, walk, cycle, or swim 60km for the 60 men lost to su***de every hour across the globe.
〰️ Host: Bring people together from morning teas to team challenges to spark meaningful conversations.
〰️ Donate: Support a colleague or contribute directly at movember.com.

Together, we can help change the face of men’s health one conversation, one moustache, and one movement at a time 💚

Today, the world’s attention turns to World Sight Day 👁️ – a global initiative dedicated to eye care awareness and equitable access.

This year’s theme, 💚 encourages everyone to prioritise their eye health — at home, at work, and in everyday life.

Protecting your vision can be as simple as:

〰️ Taking regular screen breaks by following the 20-20-20 rule – every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds
〰️ Wearing sunglasses and a hat for UV protection
〰️ Eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, omega-3s, vitamins, and minerals to help slow macular degeneration and diabetes-related vision loss
〰️ Quitting smoking
〰️ Wearing safety glasses in hazardous environments
〰️ Scheduling routine eye checks every two years, or more often if you’re at risk

Our hospital is proud to support better eye health by providing high-quality ophthalmic care to our local community.

Take time to love your eyes this World Sight Day 💙. Book an eye test 👓 if your vision has changed, and encourage others to do the same.

🧡 World Patient Safety Day – Teamwork in Action

Today is World Patient Safety Day, and at our hospital we’re highlighting the importance of surgical safety through the power of teamwork.

A key part of this is Team Time Out – a brief pause before surgery where the team confirms the patient’s identity, the procedure, and the surgical site. This critical step which forms part of the World Health Organisation’s Surgical Safety Checklist enhances communication, prevents errors, and keeps patient safety front of mind.

This July marked the fifth year of Time Out audits across our hospital network, and it was our biggest and best yet! Every one of our 22 hospitals participated, with 462 doctors audited by Nexus Hospitals nursing champions – the highest level of engagement to date – further strengthening the compliance and collaboration across our theatres.

A huge thank you to our doctors and employees who made this year such a success, and our Chief Medical Officer Anthony Chambers for leading this important initiative. Patient safety starts with our teams around the table and together we’re making every check count.

💛 Today is R U OK? Day 💛

Caring for people is at the heart of everything we do not just for our patients, but for each other.

R U OK? Day is an important reminder to check in with the people around us. A simple, genuine “Are you okay?” can open the door to a conversation that makes all the difference.

In healthcare, we’re often busy giving our best to others, and it’s easy to miss the small signs that a colleague or friend might be struggling. You don’t need to have all the answers - just being present, listening without judgment, and encouraging support can truly help.

We encourage everyone today, and every day, to:
✔️ Check in with someone you care about
✔️ Listen with empathy
✔️ Encourage seeking help when needed
✔️ Take time to look after your own wellbeing too

Our hospital is committed to building a culture of kindness, compassion, and connection. Thank you to our incredible team for all that you do not just today, but every day.

Let's keep the conversations going. 💛

💗 Women’s Health Week: Say yes to your health, it’s worth it.

This week we're proud to support Women’s Health Week and encourage our clinicians, staff, and patients to put their well-being first. It’s more than awareness—it’s your reminder to prioritise your health.

This week’s focus:

✅ Every check matters: Stay up-to-date with routine checks and screenings.
🧭 Take the lead: Come prepared—use the right info and tools to get more from your appointments.
❤️ Heart smart: Heart disease affects women in ways often overlooked—let’s talk about it.
🦋 Pain to power: Pain isn’t “just part of being a woman.” You don’t have to push through it alone.
🧠 Be kind to your mind: Caring for mental health is just as important as caring for your body.

Our commitment:

🩺 Encouraging regular health checks and early screening
🧠 Providing confidential mental health support through TELUS Health
🌱 Supporting wellness programs across our national hospital network
🗣️ Fostering a workplace where women feel safe to speak up, seek support and be recognised
