✨ A New Chapter for Get Out

This year has been big - full of growth, lessons, wins, and honest realisations. And as we head into December, I’m doing something I don’t do often: taking a breath.
Not to stop, but to recalibrate.
Not to step back, but to step forward properly.

Get Out was never meant to copy what already exists. Not another bar night, or sports team, or mixer - there are so many orgs already doing brilliant work in those spaces.

Get Out was built because I wanted something different - intentional connection, community that feels human, and spaces that help us build real belonging.

Some things we created this year landed beautifully.
Some need refining.
Some need a bigger community.
And some need me to build them smaller, first.

So in December, we’re slowing the weekly content so I can:
💛 reconnect more with q***r orgs here in Sydney
💛 test new ideas (brunch events, online gatherings, health & active spaces)
💛 explore bringing in partners/ambassadors
💛 design the next version of Get Out with more clarity and purpose

Get Out isn’t going anywhere - it’s getting clearer.

Thanks for being here, and for believing in something quieter, deeper, and more intentional than the usual q***r calendar. 🌈

✨ A Little Sparkle for Your Day: Alex Greenwich MP

Alex Greenwich (he/him) has always been one of the hardest-working champions for LGBTQIA+ Australians - but over the past few weeks, he’s become something bigger: the man of the moment, leading with heart, courage, charm, and that unmistakable Greenwich calm that somehow cuts through chaos like a laser. 🏳️‍🌈

As the Independent Member for Sydney, Alex has spent more than a decade pushing for equality with a steadiness that feels almost old-fashioned in the best way. Marriage equality, anti-discrimination reforms, trans-inclusive healthcare, q***r safety, surrogacy rights - he’s been in every room where progress was possible, long before the cameras arrived.

But recently? He’s been showing an entirely different kind of leadership: unapologetic, unbothered, and beautifully blunt in the face of homophobia. Whether he’s calling out political opportunism, dismantling bad-faith arguments, or standing up for q***r families with his trademark mix of grace and steel, Alex has become the voice many of us wish we had at the table.

He’s doing what q***r leaders have always done best - taking the hits, telling the truth, and refusing to shrink to make anyone else comfortable. And he’s doing it with intelligence, empathy, and yes… a level of quiet s*x appeal that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In a moment where so much noise is designed to divide us, Alex reminds us what integrity looks like: steady, principled, and relentlessly pro-human.

Because sometimes, the little sparkle we need is the reminder that our community has leaders who show up - not for headlines, but for us. ✨

💬 Keep up with Alex’s work or show him some love over at Alex Greenwich MP - because backing a leader who backs us is always a good investment. 💛

🌈 New this week: The friends you outgrow (and the ones who help you grow).

As we get older - especially in q***r life - friendships shift. Some fade. Some hold. Some can’t come with us into the next era because we’re no longer the person we were when they met us.

This week’s story is about exactly that:
✨ healing
✨ changing
✨ choosing better
✨ and learning to build friendships that fit the life you fought to create.

It’s about the discomfort of drifting, the quietness of being misunderstood, and the relief of finally finding people who match your now - not your past.

If you’ve ever felt guilty for outgrowing people… or lonely while becoming a better version of yourself… this one’s for you.

💭 “The people who belong in your life now won’t be intimidated by your healing - they’ll be inspired by it.”

🌈 Spotlight: fabALICE Festival – Where Drag, Desert & First Nations Q***r Culture Shine

Set in the heart of Mparntwe/Alice Springs, FabAlice is one of Australia’s most joyful and culturally significant q***r festivals — a dazzling celebration where drag, performance, and First Nations storytelling come together under the desert sky.

✨ Why It Matters

Launched in 2019, FabAlice has become a powerful symbol of q***r pride in Central Australia, honouring both the LGBTQIA+ community and the deep cultural roots of Arrernte Country. More than just a party, FabAlice creates a rare and vital space where First Nations q***r identities can be seen, affirmed, and celebrated on their own terms.

The festival blends drag, cabaret, live music, storytelling, rainbow family events, and community gatherings - but its heart lies in showcasing the voices, artistry, and resilience of Brotherboys, Sistergirls, and First Nations performers whose stories have too often been overlooked.

In a region where distance, isolation, and cultural responsibility intersect, FabAlice offers connection. It brings people together from across the NT, the APY Lands, WA’s desert communities, and beyond - proving that q***r joy doesn’t just belong to big cities. It lives in red dirt, community halls, backyard yarns, and desert nights full of sparkle.

🧭 How You Can Get Involved

💬 Because fabALICE Festival shows what happens when culture and pride meet on Country - a celebration where First Nations q***r identities aren’t just included, but centred, honoured, and joyfully embraced.

✨ New on Get Out: Beyond Vibes

This time of year can hit hard — the pressure to partner up, the quiet loneliness in crowded rooms, the temptation to fall back into “vibe dating” just to feel something.

But real connection isn’t about a spark. It’s about alignment, safety, and showing up with emotional honesty.

This week’s story explores:
💌 why “vibes” aren’t enough
🎄 how to survive (and soften) holiday loneliness
💡 what future-proofing actually looks like in dating
🤝 small, real ways to reconnect — even when you feel alone

If the holidays feel complicated, you’re not the only one.

✨ A Little Sparkle for Your Day: Alex the Astronaut

Alex the Astronaut (she/her) - real name Alex Lynn - has a gift for turning life’s quiet moments into anthems of hope, courage, and connection. With her signature mix of indie-folk melodies and heartfelt storytelling, she captures what it means to grow up, fall in love, and find your place in the world - all while proudly flying the q***r flag. 🌈

From her breakout song “Already Home” to the deeply personal “Not Worth Hiding” - an LGBTQIA+ coming-out anthem that became a rallying cry for love and equality during Australia’s marriage equality campaign - Alex has become one of the most uplifting voices in modern Australian music. Her lyrics balance vulnerability and optimism, often reminding listeners that we’re all just trying to figure things out, one verse at a time.

Beyond her music, Alex is open about her experiences on the autism spectrum and her mission to make people feel seen - especially those who’ve ever felt different or left out. Her honesty, humour, and kindness shine just as brightly offstage as they do in her songs.

Sometimes, the brightest stars are the ones who remind us we’re all made of the same light. ✨

🎶 You can catch Alex’s latest album How to Grow a Sunflower Underwater on all major streaming platforms, or follow her on Instagram Alex the Astronaut for a daily dose of warmth, whimsy, and quiet brilliance.

✨ New on Get Out: The Tired Era Is Over

Socialising feels harder for so many of us - the cost of living, constant pressure, and the weight of the world aren’t helping. But for q***r folks, sobriety, clarity, and micro-connections might be the real superpowers we didn’t know we had.

This week’s piece explores:
🌱 why everyone feels too drained to show up
🧡 how sobriety quietly gives you more life back
👀 what a 77-year-old taught us about happiness
🤝 why tiny acts of connection matter more than big nights out

If you’ve ever thought “I’m too tired to catch up,” this one’s for you.

🌈 Spotlight: Queensland Council for LGBTI Health – From Activism to Action

For more than four decades, the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health - QC has been a lifeline for q***r communities across the state - evolving from the early days of HIV/AIDS activism into one of Australia’s leading organisations for LGBTQIA+ health, wellbeing, and connection.

✨ Why It Matters

Formerly known as the Queensland AIDS Council (QuAC), QC has transformed alongside the community it serves. What began as a grassroots response to a health crisis has become a statewide network supporting LGBTIQ+ people through every stage of life - from youth programs and trans health services to mental health support, peer groups, and regional outreach.

Through clinics, training, research, and advocacy, QC continues to break down barriers and fight stigma, all while reminding us that health isn’t just physical - it’s emotional, social, and deeply connected to belonging.

✨ A Little Sparkle for Your Day: Nate Byrne

Nate Byrne (he/him) isn’t just the familiar face bringing us the forecast each morning on the ABC - he’s a meteorologist, former naval officer, science communicator, and proud advocate for visibility and inclusion in Australian media.

From the Royal Australian Navy to ABC News Breakfast, Nate’s career has been guided by curiosity, courage, and a deep belief in helping people understand the world around them. But beyond the maps and meteorological charts, what really makes Nate shine is his authenticity. He’s been open about his journey as a gay man in the public eye and uses his platform to remind us that representation matters - especially in spaces where it hasn’t always existed.

Whether he’s breaking down the science behind a cold front or championing the importance of climate literacy, Nate leads with warmth, intelligence, and integrity. He brings humanity to science, and pride to the screen.

🌈 You can catch Nate on ABC News Breakfast or follow his journey on Instagram - because sometimes, the forecast really is bright.
