Spearmint, fennel, clove, anise to manage PCOS

Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. The root cause of PCOS is actually insulin resistance and poor metabolic function. It is characterized by a variety of symptoms, including irregular periods, excess androgen (male hormone) levels, and the development of small fluid-filled sacs (follicles) on the ovaries. PCOS is quite prevalent, affecting an estimated 6% to 13% of reproductive-aged women worldwide, though a significant portion of cases, up to 70%, remain undiagnosed.

A comprehensive review highlighted emerging preclinical research suggesting that essential oils, like spearmint, fennel, clove, and anise, have the potential to manage PCOS. The research suggested that these oils can encourage hormone balance, reverse metabolic dysfunction, and promote healthy ovarian function. Although promising, clinical research is necessary to determine the best way to use these oils for PCOS.
