I invite you to sign this petition. Mental health patients and psychology organisations have formed a united coalition of nine peak agencies calling for the Australian Government to increase the number of Medicare-rebated psychology sessions.

This Mental Health Month let’s talk about the government cap of 10 Medicare-rebated psychology sessions for Australians. Psychologists and their patients know there are millions of people living with mental health issues, who need more care and cannot improve with a 10-session limit.

People with complex mental health conditions and people who have survived trauma are among those most likely to need more than 10 sessions to improve.

Since Medicare-rebated psychology sessions were cut from 20 to 10 by the Federal Government in 2022, peak psychology bodies and consumer organisations have consistently advocated for more care for those who need it.

It is time for government to increase the 10-session Medicare cap and let Australians access the psychology care they need.

Do you have a teenager (14-18 years) struggling with big emotions, anger, self-harm and/or trouble getting along with people?

Our ‘Get Skilled’ program is designed to equip young people with a blend of core Dialectical Behaviour Therapy informed skills, including distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness.

Based in Indooroopilly, Brisbane, sessions are face-to-face and participants are able to access Medicare rebates on up to 10 group psychology sessions + 10 individual psychology sessions each year under a GP Mental Health Treatment plan.

Carla-Renee Sherwood has worked in the field of Addiction for the past 12 years across a number of settings including public health (ATODS & MH, QLD Health), private practice and inpatient treatment. In 2018, Carla worked at a 120-bed, residential, inpatient addiction treatment centre in Chiang Mai, Thailand for two years. She provided psychological services to clients from around the world with complex and developmental trauma, PTSD, addictions, depression and anxiety, complex grief and loss, personality disorders, and food, body and sleep disorders.
